Re: Should Spurs call time on AVB?
I agree with much of what was written in that article, if your CBs are struggling the last thing you want to is remove some of the protection they're receiving from the midfield, especially when one of the CMs you leave there has already been booked.
Although i dont think AVB underestimated City his tactics do give that impression, theres no team in the PL with the quality to attack City like that at the Ethihad

Didn't city thrash united 6-1 even with goat manager fergie? City can do this to anyone every now and then

yup, that's probably what AVB should tell Levy to justify that putrid performance and the humiliationVendettaRed07 wrote:Didn't city thrash united 6-1 even with goat manager fergie? City can do this to anyone every now and then

Its never good to see a young up and coming Manager go through what he did. Maybe he will improve his tactics from here on. Spurs would be stupid to let him go at this point really. He is trying to change the entire culture/approach of the club. That is not an easy job, especially given the current environment of the Premier league.

Re: Should Spurs call time on AVB?
He wants to play a high-line and a passing game, ultra La Liga style. And he's stubborn and won't change when things don't work. The Chelsea players bailed on him after Arsenal brutally exposed the stupid system . Tottenham players would too but they aren't big like JT or Frank. And on top of that, AVB doesn't take the youth system seriously, because they don't produce tiki-taka players here. Honestly, AVB should just fudge off to La Liga.ExtremistEnigma wrote:What exactly is he trying to change?Arsenalfaithfull wrote:Its never good to see a young up and coming Manager go through what he did. Re: Should Spurs call time on AVB?
And what does he want to accomplish by doing that?
You can play a high-line and passing game in the EPL as well but there has to be a balanced approach.. a touch of pragmatism. BR himself realized this halfway point last season and changed the way we approach games.

Re: Should Spurs call time on AVB?
To be fair, Tottenham weren't that bad in first half. At some point they in the first half the possession stats were something like 67-33 for Tottenham and they were looking good otherwise than in terms of creating chances. Obviously they collapsed after that, but one shouldn't read too much into this game, I'd mark them down as favorites against United in the next round.

Re: Should Spurs call time on AVB?
not justifying it, lm just saying just because they lost 6-0 doesn't mean he is entirely the problem therefore deserves to be sacked for it.Mr Nick09 wrote:yup, that's probably what AVB should tell Levy to justify that putrid performance and the humiliationVendettaRed07 wrote:Didn't city thrash united 6-1 even with goat manager fergie? The question is, if they sack AVB, who do they even bring in to replace the man?

Re: Should Spurs call time on AVB?
Honestly, I think one of the problems is that while we bought a lot of quality this Summer, none of that "quality" has been able to provide the toughness or leadership needed for games like the one against City.
Dawson is a good captain, but he is a bottom table defender who has no place in our starting XI much like Scott Parker last season.
This is where I have an issue with some of our transfers which destabilized certain positions: Benny, Huddlestone, Caulker and Dempsey.
The lack of an attacking LB like Benny and AVB's rigid tactics have made it quite easy to game plan for us. Huddlestone and Caulker have both shown a lot promise this season. I was never a fan of Huddlestone, but his set piece ability might of helped unlock a few goals for us this season. Caulker should of been held onto in place of Dawson.
In terms of Dempsey, while he's on shit form right now, and I admittedly don't think he's talented enough for this squad, we needed a player like Dempsey yesterday who would've at least brought an edge and desire to a squad utterly devoid of it when their backs were up against it.
Oh well, I could go on for days regarding the issues we have right now, but I'm hoping as some of you have said it was just a one off game. I guess we'll see the true nature of our squad against United.

Is it man managent? He started to drop fanbase when at Chelsea around this time. I hope his players stick by him and actually play for him, results have been shitty

Re: Should Spurs call time on AVB?
Spurs' hierarchy seriously considering the sacking of AVB according to the Guardian.

One bad result against United and he's probably gone.

Re: Should Spurs call time on AVB?
If I was Spurs I would hope to see sacked Andre Villas Boas
He is a bluff ... last year Tottenham was " ball to Bale" , this year we've seenthe limits without the Welsh ... and
although Bale ( POTY ) they did not qualify in CL preceded by the worst Arsenal of Wenger
.....but who in his place?

Re: Should Spurs call time on AVB?
It's too soon for Spurs to change managers, in my opinion. While they have their problems, they are a team in transition and getting into the top four this season was always going to be difficult, even if they did have a settled squad. Yet, there are still 26 games left and as Arsenal have proven, it's very much possible to recover from a poor first half of the season and finish in the top four.
Patience can go a long way. Give the manager a chance to sort things out, and give the new players a chance to settle and then see whether Villas-Boas is suitable or not.

There's no point in sacking AVB now. Wait till the results at the end of the season.
