Agüero, Zabaleta, Negredo and Navas ordered to watch Teletubbies to learn English

Everyone at Manchester City seems to be smiling at the moment, well, except their goalkeeper, and it’s not because of the 7-0 demolition of Norwich City at the weekend, their new foreign signings such as Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo are being urged to watch children’s television programmes to help them learn English.

Usually it is shows like The Sopranos or Breaking Bad which you hear Premier League footballers rave about, but at the Etihad Stadium it’s all about Teletubbies, Balamory, and In The Night Garden.

One player who is reportedly blossoming from this way of teaching is Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero, who, despite being in his third season at City, is now “getting better and better every day” at speaking English. Maybe it has been done to tap into Aguero’s love of kid’s TV, the “Kun” on the back of his shirt comes from his resemblance to “Kum Kum”, a character out of his favourite childhood show.

When new players arrive at the club from abroad, they are provided with language packs which suggest they watch the CBeebies programmes.

A source told The Sun: “City recognise the importance of players speaking English, which will help them both on and off the pitch.

“The club lays on tutors who help the players and these packs assist them with learning.

“The children's TV shows are useful for the players to learn English. Some of the players enjoy watching them more than their kids.”
