Did Madrid get the wrong forward?

Yes, Gareth Bale is the latest overhyped football star – last year's Premier League’s most delectable talent which obviously tickled Los Blanco's tastebuds the right way- but Marco Reus offered similar attacking qualities at a vastly reduced price.
Only last year Marco Reus was bought for 17.1m euros also which similarly to Bale, Reus was German footballer of the year at the time.

I admit that Reus doesn’t have the intense media hype - the hype Bale is getting, playing in the premier league does that, but on pure footballing terms how much better will Bale be then Reus could be for Real Madrid?

Having watched both of these players for a while I can't help but think Marco Reus is much more suited to Madrid then Bale ever was.
From an attacking point of view they are actually very similar talents with bale having more of the X factor, but defensively Reus is far better he has a better football brain, movement and decision making.
He knows when to track back, pressure opponents and move into space much more intelligently then Bale, also his sublime link up play and assisting team mates more often is another factor where I believe Reus is superior.....and I'm not even convinced Bale is a better goal scorer then Reus

So all things considered yesteryear Reus was 17.1m euros why exactly has Bale reached that 100m euro pricetag this year? And who would be more fitting to complete Real Madrid's system Bale or Reus?

There's plenty of players we could have got ahead of Bale. We didn't even need Bale.

We got Bale due to hype.

Reus > Bale.

Reus: Bought for 18 million last season by Dortmund.
Bale: Bought for 100 million a couple days ago by Madrid.

He is a versatile player, at Dortmund he is able to play on both wings and was put in the no. 10 role once or twice. If he went to Madrid instead of bale, could see him on the right side and going towards the middle too.

Bale is clearly the better player and they bought him to replace Cristiano Ronaldo next season. I agree that Reus could fit better while CR is there though, because he is more of a team player than Bale.

Reus is a much better player than Bale tbh. reference Bale vs Reus thread for my opinion. Reus is better at everything and works harder. Bale's only advantage is his long shots.

Bale was given full responsibility at Spurs because no one else was capable. Reus got similar stats with Gladbach ffs! Better finisher, better passer, better dribbler, better positional play, better tactically, more intelligent and more versatile. Reus has said he will never leave Germany so Real will never have been able to get him if they tried tbh.
