Do the PL lack star-power?
There's too few superstars in PL.
La Liga has Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar. 3 Marquee players, known around the world, known by people who dont know sh*t about football. Even France has Ibra, Cavani and Falcao.
If you asked a random woman on the steeet, how many players from the Prem would she know?
We have Suarez, Bale, RVP. 3 World-class players, but they dont have that star-appeal as the 3 lads from La Liga. Only football-fans knows Hazard, Mata. Its a shame that Balotelli is gone. He had that star-power.
Last decade we had Henry, C.R, Prime-Torres... So much star-power. It seems like its lacking right now in the league.
Instead of Cavani and Neymar, we get players like Soldado and Schurrle

Re: Do the PL lack star-power?
my logic might sound flawed, but its not the stars its the competion..
the fact that psg and monaco have bread and butter won't make me watch the ligue 1
as for Bundesliga, sadly for now its just BVb and Bayern with star draw but thats not why anyone watches it..

Re: Do the PL lack star-power?
Money is more evenly spread now in Europe. Its not just about EPL and the La Liga Big two nowadays.
You have France's Prestigious two,Bayern with their financial clout, and Real-Barca ofcourse who continue to enjoy the monetary advantages of a poorly run league.Hence why EPL isnt having it easy in terms of attracting 'stars' just like the old days.
It has also to be said that many if not most South American footballers in particular prefer Spain,France,Italy as destinations over England.Although there's a slight change now.

Re: Do the PL lack star-power?
I think the EPL's emergence is proof that superstar pull is BS
from 2004 to 2010, they were many Marquee stars outside the EPL, yet it still got the pull.
marketting>> stars...

Re: Do the PL lack star-power?
Star power as in elite players or star power as in popular players outside of football like Beckham, Ronaldo etc?

Re: Do the PL lack star-power?
No, Outside of the EPL, only PSG, Bayern, Barca and Madrid could pull the kind of players that City, Utd, Chelsea and maybe Arsenal can. Take away those four teams and all the stars would flock to the EPL.
Also, Are RVP, Rooney, Suarez, Mata, Bale, Hazard, Gerrard, Lampard etc etc Not stars?

Re: Do the PL lack star-power?
In comparison to the rest of the world I'm going to say no.
But compared to who played in the premier league 7-15 years ago I'm going to say yeah, there was a lot more star power in the league back then

Re: Do the PL lack star-power?
Define "superstars"!
If you ask an *average* person in Germany about football stars, you would likely first hear Schweinsteiger, Lahm and other German NT players as these are the ones that show up in commercials on TV. If you look at mainstream TV here, the faces that show up are not the "superstars" from other leagues, but domestic guys, as the *average* person would mainly watch the German NT, if s/he watches football.
If you look at *average* English persons (not specifically football fans) - what would be the people they connect with football? Wouldn't you have players that are used for commercials, too? This would IMO be the marketable superstars. ^^

Re: Do the PL lack star-power?
Well, I edited it above - but which players show up in mainstream commercials in England? These IMO would be the marketable superstars then (as in players that "everybody" knows).
(Mainstream - food, convenience articles etc)
Some examples:
