Post your country's Music
Been feeling slightly patriotic about Trinidad lately. Coming to terms with the fact that it's probably going to be my last year living here, and while excited about what awaits, I'm definitely torn up about leaving. Always thought you could tell alot about a place by the type of music it produces.
For those that don't know, it's a small island in the southern Caribbean, very very close to Venzezuela, with one of the most diverse populations and cultures in the world - especially for it's size. Alot of these songs will talk about unity, something that was and still is fundamental for progress here, due to the high degree of cultural plurality and attempts by political parties to feed off that plurality to encourage political partisanship.
My Personal Favorites

In India, which is a multi-lingual country, the is no shortage of music. There are thousands of amazing songs in each languages. Even though I only understand Malayalam, I enjoy the Hindi, Tamil and other songs as much.
Film songs are an integral part of our culture and i will show some songs which are considered classics(mind you, there are thousands of others which can be as good or better)

One side of my family descend from indentured immigrants from India. They still retain quite a bit of Indian culture, and because of that I've been exposed to quite alot of Indian Film,Music, religious practices and all these things.goonbrain wrote:In India, which is a multi-lingual country, the is no shortage of music. My father and especially my grandparents enjoy all the various elements of the Indian arts. I'll be honest though, I've never really felt attached to my Indian heritage. I thank god my ancestors emigrated, because there's a 50/50 chance I end up in a slum or begging on the streets.
Here's one of the ones that stuck with with me quite alot and actually found it's way onto my ipod lol. I'm Sure you know it.

@Butt I actually enjoy Islamic music, particularly quasidas and the classical elements. Just from the music you can just tell that these are a really peaceful people.

Re: Post your country's Music
Sissel Kyrkjebø is one of the most recognizable singers, and perhaps the most famous, female Soprano Norway has ever produced. These days, she's mostly known for doing a lot of songs in dubbed Disney movies, but she used to be the shit, back around the time when I was born. I stumbled upon this song on Youtube, and it took me a while before I realized that she was singing in Norwegian. At first, I assumed it was Japanese

Re: Post your country's Music
Old school Japanese rap
Probably the best single by the most influential rap group on the island at that point. Gaku goes off at 1:50 and he pretty much changed the way everybody rapped in Asia for 10 or so years.

In terms of hipness, it would be the likes of Kygo and Allan Walker, but I'd rather post something people haven't already heard (of). That said, I hardly ever listen to music these days and what I've heard of Norwegian pop lately has been absolute crap.
These two are probably our most popular, non-electronic pop artists, nowadays.
