Re: Barclay's Premier League discussion '13-'14
...and when we make no new signings, when defenders start dropping like flies and when we can't put chances away.We always play like shit after international breaks, and at home, and when Arteta isn't fit.
An awful lot of coincidences there.

While I agree the referee was extremely poor I don't think the challenge on Wilshere should have been a penaltyEman wrote:Anthony Taylor beat Arsenal today, not Aston Villa. I can think of maybe 1 or 2 calls all game that he got correct, like not giving us a penalty when Wilshere went down, but outside of that he whistled every single time we won the ball. Koscielny didn't foul anybody all game long and yet he somehow gets 2 yellows
- Spoiler:
First yellow was clean, second yellow was a dive

The second yellow was a bad tackle and deserved. The first was indeed a poor call.
That said, Szcz was lucky to still be on the pitch.

Sorry if it wasn't clear, but that's exactly what I said. I agreed with that decision against us, but not with many of the others.Luca wrote:While I agree the referee was extremely poor I don't think the challenge on Wilshere should have been a penaltyEman wrote:Anthony Taylor beat Arsenal today, not Aston Villa. Koscielny barely touched him at all on the second one. Far worse things happened in the game and were not called so why give a yellow/red for something so minor at such a critical time in the game to a player that had not been fouling people at all previously? It was incredibly soft.RedOranje wrote:The second yellow was a bad tackle and deserved. The first was indeed a poor call.

It wasn't a minor touch and it was rather late. Clear call and the card was fair.

Guzan was very consistent last year, and it seems like he's continuing his form. He did very well last night.

Spurs have no creativity at all
Sigurdsson keeps drifting to the rw where lennon and walker already are.

I think if dembele changed position to play am then they will probably be abit more creative. As it stands now Lennon is the one creating all the chances with his crosses. says it all about their creativity really

Crystal Palace look like a League 1 side, they're going to concede at one point... been defending from the 1st minute.

Spurs are so boring to watch without Bale.
Liverpool play the most exciting football in the league to be fair.

Bale price going up by every min this game goes by. This looks like a Championship game.
Soldado not involved in anything, except the penalty.
Liverpool for 4th looking more and more likely.

Lloris is excellent.
Makes great decisions, comes out at the right time and his kicking is looking great.

Capoue... damn what a player. Tackling, intercepting, passing he has it all.

Re: Barclay's Premier League discussion '13-'14
Really unimpressed by Spurs in that game... If it wasn't for the penno (which was fairly given, won't dispute that at all) they would've drawn and I don't think it would've been an unfair result. Crystal Palace defended well, the shots Spurs were taking were poor chances and off target for a reason. No creativity in that midfield, Soldado got no service (and did himself no favors with his movement). They looked most likely to score with Defoe chasing after clearances, I think that says something. I think the only real chance in the second half before that was Sigurdsson's embarrassing miss - and even that was only created because a defender fell down.
Spurs need to find some way to get goals into this team if Bale leaves, it's amazing that after all these signings they still seem at a loss going forward.

yh Capue looked great when he came on
Dembele is going to find it really hard to nail a place in this team unless he plays further up

Capoue is a monster. What was Wenger thinking lmao?
I think it's unfair to label Spurs uncreative when they're missing their two most creative midfielders.
Creativity is overrated in the PL tbh. Look at United for example.

Re: Barclay's Premier League discussion '13-'14
It's true, we should wait to see a full strength side before judging, and it is only the first matchday.
But I can't see how creativity can be overrated when a team fails to score from open play against Crystal Palace. We had the exact same problem at Liverpool up until last January, and when small teams parked the bus against us, we would draw 0-0 or lose on a quick counter goal. Which would've happened this game if it weren't for a handball in the box, which can't be relied upon consistently.
Sure, ManU doesn't have the stereotypical creativity usually thought of, but they get the ball in the box in good positions and create good chances, and that's really all I mean by creativity. Didn't see Spurs do that really all game.

Re: Barclay's Premier League discussion '13-'14
When he came out on that one long ball I thought he was about to pull a Neuer and go slaloming up the pitch (would of been epic). Decent first outing though for Spurs. I thought our pace of play was to slow in the first half among other issues I'll break down in the Spurs thread, but I'll take 3 away points any day of the week. The Franchise wrote:Lloris is excellent.

Spurs are one of the most powerful teams I've ever seen though. Almost every player on that team is either a unit or sprinter. A few of them are even a combo of both.

It's the opening day of the season away to a newly promoted team. Can't be making sweeping statements based off of only one game.
New signings haven't settled in, they're missing a couple of players including their best and the windows still open. Calma.
