Varane was a risk and a once in a blue moon scenario. He was getting some playing time his first season but not much. Wasn't ahead of albiol but that actually changed the following season thanks to his performances in CL due to the Ramos bust up and injuries/suspensions to our first choice CB. Hadn't things changed he may have left.

I'm glad it payed off though.

Could someone make a more detailed description about him ? From what I've seen he's more of a Busquets than a Xabi.

I think one can say he has the mental attributes of Busquets and technical/physical attributes of Alonso. Style-wise, he's closer to Alonso. He makes an amazing long and between the line passes consistently. Very sure touches despite looking slightly clumsy, it's probably the way he runs. What differentiates the decent midfielder to the top midfielder is the ability to plan few steps ahead of play, he has this in abundance and will only grow with age.

I have also noticed that even though he looks confident in touches it looks clumsy.When he runs he kicks ball a bit too much away than World class mids like Xavi,Busquets etc..His best strength as you said is his tactical awareness and always coming to right place at the right time to receive a pass.His ball control is nothing special.

Although its sad to see Asier leave La Real, his move presents great pride for us Basques especially considering his price tag, to which we knew would be high as Sociedad historically only sell to Barça.

Yet with Illaramendi reunited with his hero Xabi Alonso, it's hard not to root for Real Madrid.

Will be worth every penny. Like a young DDR

Illaramendi has a slight strain.I hate when players miss pre-season training.Just one could hamper a players progress.
It cost sahin, almost cost modric.
i just hope he comes back as early as next training session

pre-season is just too important for a slight muscular discomfort.
Every player needs every single minute available this pre-season.
that is why casillas and sergio ramos are returning early cos they know they cant afford to rest a bit.i know they are the captains tho.
