Illarramendi
"According to the whole Spanish press -Marca, As, Cadena SER, COPE and even local TV station ETB- Real Madrid and Real Sociedad have agreed a 30M€ transfer fee for Asier Illarramendi. This agreement has not been announced yet because the Basque team wants to get that fee in a single payment while Florentino Pérez's idea is to split it in two or three different payments.
The rumors that placed Illarramendi in Real Madrid started last month, but it was only two days ago than it looked as if los blancos were really interested in signing the promising midfielder. According to Spanish tabloid Marca, Zinedine Zidane called Illarramendi and convinced him to join Real Madrid -he did the same with Isco-. Illarramendi was one of Carlo Ancelotti's priorities to reinforce the team's midfield, and it will certainly be interesting to see how he develops with Real Sociedad legend Xabi Alonso as his mentor.
Real Madrid have signed Spain U21's core -Isco and Illarramendi- for about 60M€. Some might believe that Illarramendi's transfer is a bit overpaid, but Isco's cheap 25M€ transfer fee balances Real Madrid's budget.
Real Madrid want to unveil Asier Illarramendi early next week, as the team's preseason starts on July 15th."

Re: Illarramendi
We have monitored Illaramendi's progress for years(along with Inigo) and began showing interest around the January time which is why he haven't needed to pay the VAT as Sociedad knew we were coming for him and weren't taken by suprise.
Great signing

Re: Illarramendi
For those who haven't seen him play, I see alot of newspapers comparing him to Xabi but I'd say they're different. Xabi is more of a playmaker with defensive skills while Illarra is more of a defensive midfielder with great passing skills.
I haven't seen him play that much tbh, but this is what I've understood from him so far. Great signing, will strenghten the team

That's his release fee. La Real refuse any other offer than the 30m clause. And if we are to sell Higuain for 27m, Di Maria for 25m, Coentrao for more than 15m, we are good to go then.

Whole Illaramendi case reminds me of Martinez and Bayern. Majority said he wasn't special or good enough for them, but I don't see anyone saying that anymore...

Re: Illarramendi
Perez will get him for less than 30 million euros. May be a player exchange. After the Bale hype anything in 2 digits(in millions) seems less.
As for the player - Amazing passing accuracy and tackling. Although he doesn't shoot much, he will improve as he plays. He is a good investment.

Lass was n't good enough against big teams. Easily used to lose possession, but always running Against Barca he was just a liability.
Having said that Illaramendi is an investment, not all investments come good. But lets hope this one does.

Re: Illarramendi
The latest bid is €35m, according to AS. Real Sociedad also want 21% VAT (6.3m).
Last Friday, Real Madrid and Real Sociedad had reached a deal for Asier Illarramendi. Only minor details remained, concerning the instalments involved in the payment of the player’s 30 million-euro transfer fee. However, the Basque outfit backtracked at the last minute, particularly due to popular pressure, and asked for the 23-year-old’s buy-out clause as the only way for ‘Illarra’ to leave Anoeta.
Now Real Madrid have submitted an offer of 35 million euros for Illarramendi, following a bid of 34 million that was rejected by ‘La Real’ earlier on Wednesday. The Spain Under-21 international had stated his desire for his future to be resolved before his return to pre-season training with Real Sociedad on 11 July. But negotiations continued throughout Wednesday as the issue of VAT payment dragged on. Illarramendi has decided to make the move to Madrid, but is unwilling to force his exit and will report for training at Zubieta.
Real Sociedad are now demanding that Madrid pay them the equivalent of the midfielder’s release clause (30 million), as well as taking responsibility for the 21% VAT on the transaction (6.3 million). This method of payment is much more favourable to ‘Los Blancos’ than directly activating his release clause: were they to do so, the player would be forced to hand the 30 million over to the Spanish Football League (LFP), in addition to 51% income tax, raising the price of the deal to 45.3 million.

Re: Illarramendi
Congratz. This kid is special. Saying that he has good defensive and passing skills isn't saying much about him really. His most important strength is his awareness of his surrounding, having the movement and timing to carry out what he has in mind. Also see him as a potentially good leader by how much his teammates usually trust him despite his tender age.
