I'm sorry but please tell me how Higuains < 1 goal per year in the CL has guided Madrid to the CL semi finals. Quite frankly you're giving Higuain credit for what his team has achieved and his European record is extremely poor for an attacker.
I'd expect better from somebody in the mould of Gary Hooper.
Also when I'm talking about success, I'm talking in individual terms. Milan Baros won a CL, does that mean he's better than Totti?

I just can't agree with that, but I can't fight his corner after another big game collapse.

Higuain is a European flop, and this is why I don't want him.
How you can be a striker playing for Madrid and score less than 1 goal every CL campaign is beyond me. It's not like he's had a few minutes here and there either, he's been fighting it out for a starting spot with Benzema ffs.
Pathetic European record. Probably down to having a poor mentality rather than ability.

Quagliarella isnt totti, your only selling point has been a stat. its clear you havent really watched the games and are judging based off of the dortmund game/what madrid fans are saying/a stat. again quagliarella more successful or better than higuain in CL or anything for that matterAbraKebabra Alacalamb wrote:Albiceleste wrote:When did Quagliarella make three straight CL semi final appearances? I don't know. Maybe you're right.
We seriously need to give one of them the licence to be the No. 1 striker for the team and see how they handle the it for the season.
All this chopping and changing ain't helping any of them.

Woah!
I can assure you, there is nothing wrong with his mentality at all. One of the most mentally tough players I've seen.

Re: Official: Higuain joins Napoli
Yeah but you see I never said Quagliarella is better than Higuain.
I said Quags has had more success in the CL. Which is true, as an individual he's had a fraction of a FRACTION of the playing time Higgy has had and has nearly as many goals.
Higuain is better than Quagliarella, but his goal scoring record in Europe is NOT. You're using Higuains teams success (Which he's had a very small part of in Europe) to tell me he's done better than Quags in Europe.
My point is even our scrub strikers are performing better in the CL and Higuains record is just beyond terrible.
Burak Yilmaz playing for an infinitely less able squad than Higuain has scored more than Higuain in 1 season than Higgy has in 6.
Higuain in Europe has been piss poor. This is fact.
EDIT: Yes i'm well aware that Quags is not Totti. I was merely showing you how pointless it is to compare players using how far each mans respective team has performed in the CL.

Yeah Yilmaz had a good year statistically, but he's not quagliarellaBurak Yilmaz playing for an infinitely less able squad than Higuain has scored more than Higuain in 1 season than Higgy has in 6.
Doesn't mean he hasn't contributed, he has been decisive in the knockouts this season aside from the Dortmund game, but none of madrids players were good in that game. you wouldn't know this from looking at a stat thoughHiguain in Europe has been piss poor. This is fact.

sorry, but higuain has been useless other than in the effort category in CL, pool play or otherwise... he has 1 goal and 2 assists in 9 games (6 starts). You don't need an effort player as a CF. No impact whatsoever.

Re: Official: Higuain joins Napoli
Wow you're way off of the point. I used Quagliarella as an example of a player who's not as good yet has been individually better in Europe than Higuain. This is not a Higuain v Quags debate I could have picked a number of people instead of Quags.
And pointing out that Quags is not Yilmaz is again dodging my point that Higuian is vastly, almost astoundingly, under performing in Europe.
Madrid normally go very far in Europe, and to score roughly 1 goal per season in the CL is shocking for a striker.
Yes it's a 'stat' but if you don't want to judge a striker by how many goals he scores then i'm a bit confused as to what to say next really.
How you can say Higuain has been good or decisive in Europe despite scoring an amazingly low amount of goals is beyond me. You're obviously a huge Argentina NT fan hence why your bias is clouding your judgement regarding Higuain. 1 goal per year in the CL is shit by any regular CL participating strikers standards, let alone a striker playing for the most successful team in the competition and a team who are expected to try and win it every single year.
Well seeing as you value goals from strikers so little (Which I think is absurd personally. They're in the team first and foremost to score goals) what attirbute do you think we should judge strikers on? I'm genuinely curious as to what you see is so much more important than scoring goals when it comes to being a striker.

his goal against galatasaray that basically put the tie away for Madrid and the tap ins he created for CR didnt have an impact? look at who he has to compete with for goals and chances, CR the most wasteful world class scorer ever. Higuains total of 10 shots this whole campaign speaks volumes

Re: Official: Higuain joins Napoli
I'm afraid Higuain is the one who decides when to shoot and when to make his runs, where to position himself etc.
At the end of the day it's a strikers purpose to score goals. If a striker's not doing that despite playing at such a high level then he's obviously not doing well enough.
Even another Madrid fan agrees he's been useless in Europe. At this point it's just your bias towards Higuain that keeps you defending him.
You keep dismissing goals as 'stats' like stats are 100% misleading and shouldn't hold any weight in an argument. The 'goals scored' stat is an extremely important one and as far as I and many other people are concerned, it's the most important aspect of a striker.
Goals win games, putting in a good shift up front does not. Of course it helps, but yeah... goals win games. And strikers are supposed to get those goals.

Re: Official: Higuain joins Napoli
he made one huge play in CL tbh... the assist against Man U. Granted, Man U was down to 10 men. But still, it was needed. That was it. His issue is that he's too anxious in CL for some reason. You see him offsides 100x more in CL. You also see extra touches and hesitation you never do in La Liga.
He has the quality obviously given his La Liga record. Just lacks confidence in CL.

TomJuve you're assuming far too much, to dismiss Higuain as shite and useless over a stat is tomfoolery, thats my point if you havent gotten it yet. I have not argued Higuain couldnt have done much better but the circumstances he has to work in are atypical for a player of his mold and he is more than goals as he has proved.
I await the day he leaves Madrid to a team where he can be appreciated

Re: Official: Higuain joins Napoli
Not saying he's shit or useless as a player.
However his performances in the CL have been shit for a striker.
And perhaps he has not been completely useless but there have been so so many other strikers that have made better individual contributions that aren't even considered to be close to his talent.
The 'stat' is goals scored. He's a striker who's scoring 1 goal every 10 games or so in Europe. That's terrible, his European record needs to improve.

higs is a great player, i feel he can still perform in the cl just not for madrid he puts too much pressure on himself, he can be a starter at most elite clubs imo even tho he does lack some technical ability

Re: Official: Higuain joins Napoli
For all this talk of CL flop he gave Ronaldo a shot on a platter vs Dortmund in the 2nd leg who bottled it. Any team would be lucky to have Gonzalo and I would take him at Barca in a heartbeat.
Also Higgy has a total of 9 goals and 6 assists in 2565 minutes in the CL, which comes out to be a goal or assist every 0.53 games. That is hardly an awful record.

I love Higgy, but this is just ridiculous and complete nonsense.
This is not about a single moment, this is about consistent inept performances in the biggest of occassions. It's unacceptable. I don't care about him setting people up, I care about him hitting the back of the net in the biggest moments, which he hasn't done.
You can not defend this. He needs to address this. He is so much better than what I see from him.

Re: Official: Higuain joins Napoli
I'm just pointing out that his performance wasn't that bad and that there's more to his game than stats show. I agree that there is a difference in performance level between the league and the CL, but that is greatly exaggerated in this thread.izzy wrote:I love Higgy, but this is just ridiculous and complete nonsense.

Apparently (according to AS) Flo wants Lewa, so maybe they'll swap the two?
Personally i feel Higuain would be perfect for Dortmund under Klopp. But who knows if he even wants to play in germany... I like the idea though.

I love both of them tbh
I've warmed up to higuain this season.. he works his ass off. Benzema frustrates me so much, I enjoy his style much more as a player and he is a very humble guy.
But he is lazy. He has so much talent and he is putting it to waste.

They haven't actually played together upfront long enough. But i'm convinced that if they are given a regular outing as a strike partnership, they could well blossom into a tasty tandem.
