Please give an explanation about how he was "guilty" for that 2 goals .

sportsczy wrote:lol. Varane was in perfect position on Drogba's goal. You're supposed to stay in front of the CF while maintaining close contact when he makes a near post run, which is what he did. He was all over him. Drogba managed to execute a fantastic backheel because that's the only shot he could get off.
Are you guys drunk? lol
Much too simplified. CBs are taught not just to cover their zonal man yet also veil any chance of shots that can be conceded of their limbs which is why last-ditch tackles and screening the attacker exists. Drogs was afforded substantial space to acquire the backheel to which should have been covered. I'd forgive Varane though since Drogba outmuscled him considerably. That's one thing a reader of the game has little chance to cover.

Isnt it the defender job to stop the attacker of scoring? I saw 2 goals.

go watch the play again. There was no space, which is why Drogba attempted what he did. If he tried a normal shot, it would have been blocked.

Drogba's goal was a moment of genius, and Sneijder goal happened to fast. He could have done sth at Sneijder's goal, but you can't say that was a big mistake.

Re: Varane
What I saw was Varanes positioning was slightly off but you accord it to how the opposition lays off their attack, and the positioning of the forwards. Ofcourse the goals itself were not unstoppable but well executed.

To be honest I noticed he was more outmuscled than poorly reading his zone. Being outmuscled isn't anything to be embarrassed about as this is the only factor where great Italian and German CBs struggled. It was a brilliant goal when I saw it from some angles and not much someone of Varane's inexperience could do about it. He was poor for the Sneijder goal though which was inexcusable.

Re: Varane
So it's agreed Varane just had a not so good match and Albi can stop using Varane as a way to deflect what was a heart wrenching loss for those who backed Malaga.
He probably would have done it anyway but still, it's clear as day...

I'm confused by this thread, so what does it take for a defender to be at fault for a goal?

Re: Varane
Fans have a way of having a reason for anything other than what it probably is. Personally, I didn't really notice Varane as I was busy focusing on Malaga and Di Maria's disgusting lack of intelligence and right foot.
If he were at fault for either goal, I'm pretty sure he would be learn from that. We aren't talking about Ramos or Pepe here. The lad has a good footballing brain on him...

Re: Varane
Don't know about Pepe but Ramos is quite underrated in his footballing intelligence and scouting of the game. Where he fails is his concentration issues in being caught often for complacency which is at fault of the management. For Espana he is a different man as his intrinsic focus and performances are much better as compared to Real Madrid. It is probably a sign that with strict measures he can overcome these mental issues.
Varane? His mistakes come purely of inexperience as there is a reason why he is compared to a young Nesta.

Collblanc wrote:I dont care about docking. I care about justice. Varane is not wordclass, proven once again. And once again its proven that Real Madrid fans are the most biased fans out there. This kid has 2 good performances and you call him wordclass.
*world class
So the minute varane makes a mistake (which he didn't), it all of a suden makes him bad?
He's had MUCH more then 2 good performances.
Stop talking out of your ass

But 2 decent games against a worthy opponent makes him 'wordclass'?

Re: Varane
basically this thread just goes to show how obsessed barca fans are about madrid.
a 19 year old kid makes a mistake and 4-5 barca fans rush into this thread the first chance they get to bash him.
you guys need hobbies.

Re: Varane
Listen, I never said this guy isnt a good defender. He is a great defender and I wish we had a defender like him at Barca. The fact however is that people on this forum tend to hype a player. The kid has 16 performances? And is considered 'top 5'. Also, there has been said that this defender 'stops' Messi. I explained this before; the team effort and organisation that Real Madrid defense does, is wat stops Messi, or any other player. NOT Varane.
People here acted like this guy was the messiah of defending; no mistakes, no fouls. This is not true. He is not wordclass(!), he is young, he makes mistakes (every goal in your zonal marking = mistake) Give him time.

Yes, we have Pique and Puyol who are experts in making mistakes. I dont mind Varane mixing some extra mistakes in there.
