He's not overrated, he's over-hyped.
He's 21 and people are expecting to slay all he sees like Messi and Ronaldo. He's not in their class.
The expectations for this kid is ridiculous.

Everyone considers Van Persie and Ibra two of the best strikers around....
Where are they on the international stage?
This major double standards in regards to Neymar, he's also performing higher than most of the considered " world class" players yet some how he's overrated and sucks.
Where is Cavani on the international stage btw? where is Falcao?
Neymar is performing higher than all of them so why is he the only overrated one?

yes the problem is not Neymar, the problem is people and the expectations they have of him. You cant change people so you will never really stop this. Neymar is a nice 21 yo talented kid that still has wayyy to go. But since his talent level looks so high, he is compared to Messi or Ronaldo in their finished state which is ridiculous, but honestly, that's how people look at football nowadays. The progression curve of each player is also very different.

CR was a nobody at 21, you can argue Messi if you want but he was still piss poor for Argentina.
Not sure if you're serious about Ronaldo here? Or are you talking about his NT performances alone? Because it was the season he was 21-22 yrs old (2006-2007) that he really broke out ... plus he did make the Uefa team of the tournament for the '04 Euros. Dude was more a "somebody" by age 21 than most professional footballers ever get to be.
I'm not a CR7 fanboy or anything like that. I just don't get why everything has to be so balls-to-the-wall dedicated to the Talladega Nights "if you're not first, you're last" mentality on here ...
Same thing with Neymar. Oh my god, you mean the guy doesn't have an airtight rounded perfect game by age 21? He's maybe not going to be the GOATiest GOAT of all GOATdom? Then definitely he sucks. No other explanation. No middle ground.

loool @ this thread
I'd love to know how many people here actually play football because this belief that a player who displays some quality should automatically play 10/10 every game is retarded.
And like someone said before people are either NeyGod
or Nerman
Because yes a 21 y.o. should reach Messi's level or be deemed a failure
Read your posts out loud and listen to how stupid they sound.
People who are expecting Neymar to dribble through everyone and score hattricks in every game should shoot themselves because your cognitive capabilities are severely lacking.

I know just saying.... he clearly isn't a scrub or overrated.
People have to stop expecting him to be Messi at 21 surrounded by scrubs and expect him to GOAT every time.
His international performances are still miles better than so many of the players people wank over.
It just makes you look stupid when he does start GOATing and he will.
tbh, I don't think that its arguable that Messi was better than Neymar at that age, imo its a fact. Remember, by 21 he had already scored a hattrick against Real Madrid, he had destroyed the best defensive team in the world at the time, Chelsea, in the CL knock-out stage, he had already finished in the top 3 in the ballon d'or and fifa world player of the year and was named the best young player at the copa america..

+1
It's not his fault that Pelé is a douche and tries to fool people into beliving that Neymar is better than Messi. How can you hate him for what other people say when he himself has always said that he is not in Messi's class?

Well, 1 direct assist but the 1st goal came from his cross. So he was behind both goals..

I have never been into the Neymar hype, but to say he sucks is pushing it. Hes a great young player with an extremdly hright future, but thats where it ends. He wont be getting anywhere near Messis levels. He could maybe get to Riberys level, but even that is very unlikely in my opinion ,i see him ending up more like Robinho: a great player that on his day can tear teams apart by himself, but is very inconsistent

Neymar is crap but at the same time he might become the same level as prime Robben...who according to him gets into the Dutch all time 11.

Neymar needs time . IMO it feels like he plays knowing that everyone has to come to see him and expects him to be the next pele . He should be a little more relaxed .
The expectations are high because hes 21 and is on rooneyesque wages... in brazil .

Neymar should start eating more and hitting the gym. Feck sheck he is so freaking thin for a footballer. I think me even at this age can bully the shit out of him.
Anyways Neymar has the potential to be better or even the best in the world but atm he is clearly lacking the physical strength and needs to widen his vision, quite Di Maria like at times with his dribbling and passing. But he is young and can be better.
And seriously I just cannot believe that some are comparing him to Robinho and Denilson. He is far better than those two.

If neymar "eats more and bulks", he won't have the same agility. Neymar looks skinny btw but he is not that weak.
And I'm positive you can't bully him off the ball. I don't think you know how strong footballers actually are.. trust me

I cant bully him off the ball? players who are smaller than me have done(lets not get into my personal test).
Anyways What I mean is Neymar gets easily outmuscled and bullied by physical defenders and if he wants to succeed in Europe he has to better his physical condition and he is young and he can ofcourse. Just look at Cristiano, he was a small and skinny kid when he came to United, but look what an athlete he has become today. And being strong enough does not mean losing agility. Just look at Messi, he is bulky but is agile as hell.

Re: Neymar Watch
Brazil NT is a strange animal. Players look to be spectacular and effectiveness seems secondary... I mean look at Lucas: Carlo forced to play simple and cover defensively. He's been great as a result although raw.
Neymar is also very raw. It will come down to mentality as with all great talents. Will he be coachable? It's a shame he's still in Brazil because a lot of that tactical and collective discipline is drilled into players at a young age in Europe. The older and more egotistic you become, the harder it is.
Personally, i think Madrid or Barca are the worse places for him. He needs to go somewhere where he plays with the ball at his feet. With Messi and Cr7 on these 2 teams, he's going to need to become more of an off the ball and complementary player. I mean Barca already need to satisfy both Messi and Iniesta and i feel Iniesta gets sacrificed.
