Gundogan, Borja Valero, Sahin, Schweinsteiger?
Xabi Alonso may not renew his contract meaning that next season will be his last with us if he isnt sold in the summer.
We need someone who can replace him, it may not be seamless but with as little disruption in the system we have as possible.
The name listed are all top class players, there may be others that people may suggest who can be a great additions to the team.
But I think that the players above are the most talented and suited and can raise the team to even another level. (I think that Sahin is still a talent, thats why he is included).
Gundogan and Valero are my top picks.
No players 30 or above.

Re: Gundogan, Borja Valero, Sahin, Schweinsteiger?
so because Xabi is leaving, we must find the next xabi alonso, exactly the same kind of player?
no, xabi is our midfield general, gone to "shit" btw, so we can use modric in that duty, something he did for years in england btw, his best role, providing he is backed with proper defensive cover.
oh no, we must sign another star, quid of modric then?

ok...
just want to hear what other real madrid fans think about players who can fit into the team if he left.
you do realise that a team isnt just the eleven you see on the pitch. do you think we should have a great starting eleven and a bench full of useless players who cant contribute to the team? you see the evidence for this need with modric and how important he has been for us in the last couple games, yet he isnt a starter.
you do realise that a season isnt just a couple of games.
plus, if you have a player who is really important to the team, and is leaving, wouldnt you want to replace that player with someone on the same level or has the potential to reach it.
any club with any sense, would try to bring in top, talented players. more so, if one is leaving. so while i understand your point of view, i think its a little narrow-minded.
in any case its just a discussion to find out who the fans would like to see in the team. who the club can realistically get.

Re: Gundogan, Borja Valero, Sahin, Schweinsteiger?
Well, it would be a quite perfect situation to change formation a little bit....
Of course it depends who our forwards are. You could push Özil to the wing and get another midfield (e.g. Vidal), but I don't think it's necessary. I would rather look for young and upcoming DM to slowly take over Pepe. Pushing Pepe to DM would also give Varane more playing time and let our fullbacks push up more. Or perhaps we could follow Juve model and play without clear DM and have three box-to-box players.
Modric----Khedira----Sahin
This of course would mean that these guys should become much more defensive-minded and Xabi-esque. Currently Khedira is only "dirty" players from these guys. This tactic would also limit our fullbacks runs quite a bit or cause our defense to become really vulnerable for counterattacks.
But anyway, it's not like we don't have a lot options even if Alonso leaves after next season.

If Mourinho does leave our system can always change. There's no need to get anyone since we already have Modric.

changing a team's system isnt as simple as you write it.
and madrid would just have khedira and modric is xabi leaves.

Well it would depend on whether the new coach keeps the current system. I doubt the new coach would know all intricate tactical details etc Mourinho had. Therefore we would have a new system, tactics etc.
Modric can play the same roles Verratti, Gundogan, Sahin etc can play. But I doubt any of those players have the defensive ability of Alonso. So I don't think there's any point of getting anyone knew to replace Alonso, since from that list, they're similar to Modric.

Re: Gundogan, Borja Valero, Sahin, Schweinsteiger?
Marca:
Candidates:
The main priority for Real Madrid regarding new blood for next season isn't an almighty number 9, a Kun Agüero. Nor is it Gareth Bale. The club has for some time now been in search of the best midfielder in the world under 24 years of age.
The powers that be in the Bernabéu feel that it is of vital strategic importance to find a safe-bet replacement for Xabi Alonso two or three years down the road. Until then, both the player and the club are happy to renew.
A couple of months ago, José Ángel Sánchez, managing director of the club, sat down with Alonso to talk about the player's future. The club considers him so indispensable that he is the only player whose salary has been increased by the club's own initiative. (he earns €5.5 million, net).
In the meeting, the player thanked Sánchez for the proposed two-month extension, but said that, as he was still under contract until the end of the season, he preferred to wait and find out who the Real Madrid manager would be next year, and if his role would continue to be as important. Truth be told, he was worried that it would be Rafa Benitez giving out the orders from the Bernabéu dugout.
"Don't you worry, even if Mourinho does go, Benitez won't be the new manager", he was assured. The player and manager parted ways rather bitterly back in Liverpool.
Florentino Pérez, who could only see Alonso as relatively important when he was originally signed, after seeing the players abilities on the pitch, has had to accept the all-importance of the midfielder. Only last Thursday, in a charity event, the president defined him as an "emblematic player".
All well and good, but the truth is that Xabi will finish his contract in June 2014 at the age of 32. The club is well aware that it is as important to renew his contract as it is to start making moves now to finding a replacement for such a key player.
Candidates:
Xabi Alonso will finish his contract in June 2014 at the age of 32. The club is well aware that it is as important to renew his contract as it is to start making moves now to finding a replacement for such a key player.
Ilkay Gündogan. 22 years · Borussia Dortmund · Germany international
At the age of 22, Gündogan is one of the most promising midfielders around. He is a dynamic player who can hit a pin-point long ball, works hard to win the ball back and likes to join the attack.
Rubén Pardo. 20 years old · Real Sociedad · Spain under-21 international
Pardo lacks physical presence, but his ability on the ball (a long-pass specialist) certainly makes up for it.
Geoffrey Kongdobia. 20 years old · Sevilla · France under-20 international
Kongdobia is the antithesis to Rubén Pardo. A strong 'box-to-box' centre-midfielder who also has an outstanding technique. He's strong in the air and specialises in ball-winning tackles.
Marco Verratti. 20 years old · PSG · Italy international
Verratti's quality on the ball resembles that of Andrea Pirlo. He made his debut at the age of 16 for Pescara, who sold the player for €12 million to PSG. Verratti has tremendous ability to accurately distribute short and long passes.
Javi García. 26 years· Manchester City· Spain international
García is the most defensive-minded player on Real Madrid's short-list. His versatility (he can also play at centre-back) is another strong point. He's strong in the air, but Manchester City, who paid €20 million for his services in the summer, might not be so willing to let him go.
Fernando. 21 years old · Gremio · Brazil international
A defensive specialist who can take the ball out of defence. He frequently wins the ball back and rarely commits a foul. A specialist at man-marking for free-kicks.

Re: Gundogan, Borja Valero, Sahin, Schweinsteiger?
If we are to buy a replacement for Alonso, I think we should get a DM type player like Kondogbia/Javi Garcia/Fernando, instead of playmakers like Gundogan, Verratti etc. That way Modric can play alongside the DM type player.

Khedira is better than Modric.
My picks are Verratti or Gundogan.

Re: Gundogan, Borja Valero, Sahin, Schweinsteiger?
I think it's better having a playmaker at CM rather than a B2B like Khedira. I'm sure our next manager will prefer a playmaker too, since our style will hopefully change a bit.
Also I think Verratti and Gundogan can't defend like Alonso. So we might as well play Modric if we're going to buy Verratti or Gundogan.

I dont understand why we should buy 165cm midgets like verratti and play them as our Dm when we already have one midget.
We shouldve bought that kovacic and groomed him as alonso replacement. he is just 18 now.

Re: Gundogan, Borja Valero, Sahin, Schweinsteiger?
we dont need a player who is huge and strong and doesnt know how to pass the ball. we already have and seen that with pepe in he midfield.
this modern game isnt all about a big presence in the midfield anymore, its about controlling the game. making passes count. being able to hold onto the ball.
i dont mean that players like javi garcia and essien and the like are obsolete but they need to know how to pass and control the ball as well.
if alonso was to leave gundogan and schweinsteiger are my picks. we have to be realistic too, the chances of verratti and some of the others coming are so low.

Since Alonso is usually the last midfielder back, I think a player in his position needs to be good at tackling and have some presence.

Re: Gundogan, Borja Valero, Sahin, Schweinsteiger?
doenst have to be huge, i dont like huge either, but midgets are easily outmuscled.
A perfect midfeild size is around 182-184cm. Ramos size tbh.

Re: Gundogan, Borja Valero, Sahin, Schweinsteiger?
It seems Real Madrid has already chosen the player to strengthen the centre-midfield position. MARCA revealed last week that the club was searching for a midfielder to provide cover for 31 year-old Xabi Alonso, who is currently in negotiations for a new contract. The club knows full well that replacing Alonso will not be plain-sailing, but believes the best player for the job is Geoffrey Kondogbia.
The Sevilla midfielder will now not continue playing at the Sánchez Pizjuán next season. Kondogbia's transfer rights are equally shared by the club and Doyen Sports - an investment company which also works with players like Álvaro Negredo, Roberto Canella and Radamel Falcao.
Real Madrid has not as yet contacted Sevilla or Doyen Sports. Kondogbia's father, who is also his agent, is also yet to be contacted, but the club has been hot on the midfielder's heels for some time and firmly believes he is the man to step into Alonso's boots in the centre of the midfield. The club believes the player's transfer could cost around €20 million.
Nevertheless, the defensive-midfielder has already received offers from AC Milan, Inter Milan, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund. Kondogbia turned down an approach from Juventus last week, which points to the theory that the player is set to stay in Spain and could be waiting from a phone call from 'Los Blancos', or even Barcelona.

Unless what Sports wrote in the rumour thread that Pogba has a 15mil euro release clause is true, no way in God's green earth would Juventus be putting that talented man on the market.
Vidal, on the other hand, probably has a price on his head that if a club should meet it, Juve would be open for further discussions...

Don't think we need any more box to box players. Not with Modric and Khedira on the team already.
Someone who can make interceptions and distribute is probably a better option for us. I don't think Vidal or Pogba are those types of players, of course I could be wrong so who knows.
