For a guy who's broke records that have lasted decades, I can see him pulling of a 50/50.

I actually forgot the 2nd best finisher in the World returns this weekend. Those chances he's creating for that scrub Pedro or the inexperienced Munir would be falling to him instead.

Messi fans have always bought the assist stats up tho. Anyways GL goat Fußball said once assist can be deceiving a lot and I agree. Its like Ozil having more assists then Iniesta and Xavi does it make him a better play maker? No.

However it does also get annoying when certain Ronaldo fans try to deny the fact Messi is and has always been the better play maker.

Isn't the 11-11-11 stat wrong? http://www.whoscored.com/Players/11119/Fixtures/Lionel-Messi I count 11 games for Barcelona so I guess those are the 11 games meant on the pic but all I can see are "only" 9 goals and 9 assists in those.

Btw assists are "strong" stats just like goals are.. doesn't mean it's all about it but they are certainly not just some next to useless stat.

Assists are a misleading stat but it should be said the large majority of Messi's so far this season from what I can tell are either through balls and/or basically creating tap ins.

He's ridiculous when it comes to the final pass, but personally I don't think he's a great playmaker. A playmaker sets the tempo of the game and that just isn't Messi.

But when it comes to the final pass he's second to none.

i think we agree that the assist stat is sometimes misleading, for example Xavi got the assist for messi's maradona solo run goal or buscuit got an assist for the messi solo goal against real madrid..
but the thing is messi doesn't get assists like those, he literally runs through the middle while having 3-5 defender on him, finds a gap and sets up neymar etc.

also the stat shows that messi is involved in 20 goals, 10 he scored or 10 he set up

I'd say it describes about 1/5 of his assists. Most of them are perfectly weighted through balls with a lot of space in front of him.

people should not just comment in general about how important assists are without watching his assists. many of his assists are as beautiful as his goals. There can be better assists maker than him in the world that is not the issue here. its that his assists desrve merit as they are not the easy things to do....
pity he would have got way more assists in last two seasons if we had just an improved pedro. even neymar was a failure last season in this regard. no doubt neymar and suarez will increase that tally of him this season.

True, but the same is true with goals. That's why it's important to remember that stat isn't the only thing that matters in football.

While it's true for some, alot of us Messi fans have always said that assist is important. And I for one prefer his assist over his goals, but that's mostly because I prefer playmakers over goalscorers.

And also, the opposite can be said about Real Madrid fans. When you had Özil and Di Maria, assist was just as important as scoring goals. I mean, some of you even said that Özil was better than Iniesta simply because he assisted more. But now that they have left and that Messi is assisting at an even higher rate, it's as if it's not important at all.
