Abate is our best fullback

Recently there has been talk that Constant and MDS are better than abate.

I say no way. Abate has been superb recently. And while he is medicore going forward, he's a tremendous defender. Only Milan player last night who played well. Don't remember the last time anyone dribbled past him.

I really hope we don't sell him. Maybe he can't cross, but he is great defending, runs a lot, and puts himself in good positions in the attacking phase.

I love Abate, he is a true milanista. He absolutely needs to stay for next season and beyond.

MDS will become our starting LB by next year. I know this is a kneejerk towards constant, but the guy has been subpar in 2013. I'm beginning to think he had a purple patch then faded.

Anyways, MDS for LB Abate for RB. Please don't sell Abate. We'll have plenty of money to spend if we reach the UCL.

To me, I find it interesting that if players perform horribly during 45 minutes, it is morally suicide to swap those players out in the first half? I mean, Constant was having his worst game in the Milan shirt, and De Sciglio could not have gotten a chance? Was it not enough damage being caused on our left side?

Always loved Abate, even when we lost to Tottenham and he got a little flamed. There is a reason why he is known as Godbate in here, and it would be stupid to sell the best RB we have. At least keep him for one or two more seasons.

Abate has been amazing for us , no reason to sell him and opt for fullbacks Constant and MDS (which showed how Constant coped with the big boys yesterday).

Has anyone ever doubted it? I always supported abate even when he was off form... I hope last nights game showed allegri to keep a spot for Constant on the bench. There is no way MDS would have had such a performance. I never liked Constant and I never will, he can GTFO to H3ll

Abate and MDS as our fullbacks and I'll be happy. Constant obviously had a horrible game but let's relax. He has been a good addition and has helped us out a lot in Serie A. I would keep him on the bench for sure.

abate has been very very good for us. i dont even know why, if the rumours are true, we are looking to sell.

i didnt like constant since the beginning of the season, but then he turned it around and had a very good run of form for about 8 games or so. yesterday was just one game, i dont want to count him out yet, but he was by far our shittiest player on the pitch yesterday imo.

and MDS is better than constant whether constant is in-form or not. so rotation with these 3 players would be best imo, with abate and mds starting the big games.

....This wasn't known? Even with Abate off-form i consider him much better than a in-form Constant....If only we had decent CBs we could truely gauge these FBs but with these horrendous peice of shit CBs we got no way of doing it.

I hope Salamon comes through and makes a WC defender and we get rid of Mexes and co.

I'm actually hoping Salamon doesn't disappoint. With his height and phisique, I hope he doesn't turn out to be one of those defenders who lack pace.

If I'm to go by what I've heard from the media, his reading of the game, aeriel ability and marking is top notch. It's his pace I'm worried about since I haven't heard much of it

Has anyone here watched him play? What is he like?

Only on youtube honestly and their isn't much highlighting his defensive qualities.

Salamon has all the physical and technical ability to be a great center back, right now it's just fine tuning his tactical ability. Same thing happened with Thiago Silva and Abate.

This was never up for discussion, one simply needs to consider the simple fact that both Constant and De Sciglio have effectively half a season of experience as top level fullbacks; they're naturally not going to be at his level beyond the odd single performance. De Sciglio has a lot of room to grow in the future, whilst Constant frankly won't reach Abate's level ever.

Summer mercato the last years has been a nightmare for us, expect the worst guys. Abate y u no stay?

I made this thread because there has been a lot of hate on Abate recently, with people wanting him to be sold to Zenit/PSG. He's not the greatest going forward but I have always beleived that for a fullback defensive abilities are much more important, especially when you have a midfield like ours. Also, his off the ball runs are very underrated.

Coulnd't stand the fact that he went from Godbate to sell to zenit status. Abate plays with heart and symbolizes the character of a true milan player. I hope he stays here for many years.

I've heard Salamon is a bit of a freak athletically. From what i've heard, he moves far too well for a person of his height (ala Lebron James )

Constant is shit. Clueless in attack yet he tries to break away with forward runs which end up dead efforts, sloppy in passing, at times it's like an autobahn for opposition down his flank due to his poor defending. I'm yet to see him play one game well.

I understand this thread is partly a knee-jerk reaction to the Barca game, but I was never sold on Constant as a LB and I've always called for us to buy a natural LB. Constant has probably already reached his potential as a LB. At least now he will make a good back-up to a future purchase.

I can't blame Allegri for using him though, there's no other option really - unless you play MDS instead. Quite frankly, despite the 2-0 win at the San Siro, our CBs are still shite.

I'd like to see MDS play as a CB more often because that is where he is most useful. It is a shame that a talented youth product like MDS had to come up at a time when Abate has a firm grip on the RB spot. Meanwhile the rest of our defence is crumbling.

I absolutely sympathise with the reasons for making the thread, he was under fire at one stage, however it must be understood that Abate struggled with a series of niggling injuries for the first half of the season. Even when he was deemed fit, his movement appeared hampered and the fact that the injuries recurred convince me that fitness was the main issue behind any dip in form that he suffered. He's the sort of player we need to keep at the club as we rebuild. Someone who has been part of the dressing room for years now, someone who has been developed by the club, with European experience, who can help the youngsters and understands what it means to play for the shirt.

As for the idea of De Sciglio at left back that has been touched upon in this thread, I'm all for it. We just need patience, it must be realised that it takes a while to make the transition to any position. Whether he excels or suffers in individual matches doesn't provide a great indication of his progress, it is the general trend over six months to a year that provides insight into how well he is adapting. It will be a good education for De Sciglio and with Abate's presence down the right,it is also the position in which he stands to earn the most time.

I have a bad feeling he will be sold in this coming mercato and I really hope not. I believe he is a true Milanista and I hope he will be with us for a long long time.

I can't believe that a professional footballer can't cross. Let alone one who plays for Milan and one that is a converted right winger. Most school teams have players who can cross better than Abate.

Why wasn't MDS playing vs Barça? Injury?
