This is one of slightest issues!!!
you do know it's more then 9 years in the future...
Qatar aka Doha is a mini Dubai, it a few years it could even surpass them because of the investments they are doing. there are beaches, sand sports, water sports, coral reefs. They will have night clubs in a few years as they loosen their laws. They have racing tracks there..... Basically if people go to Dubai right now, in 9 years time they will want to go to Doha and rest of Qatar too
Qatar has also hosted Asian Cups, WTA Championships, Motocross etc
Go learn a bit about the country, it's not as uncivilized or barren as you think it is
All those you mentioned have been played during the winter season, anyway what beaches are we talking about here, men only or women only beaches? Cause I surely won't go to a "men only" beach and won't be allowed in a "women only" beach.... water sports in a 40+ temperature that seems a lot of fun and sun block, that I believe is too much for most ppl... I for one seriously mind the temperature even as a fan, why should I go watch a football game when the temperature is 40+ under shade.... How do you expect the players to perform after a tiring season and heavy preparation for the most prestigious football trophy?
now lets leave the weather talk and let me ask this:
Why Qatar, what has Qatar done to the world of football to deserve to host the WC? When hosting the AFC the Avg attendance was about 11,000/game!!! What have they won, what remarkable players did they produce? I can't find one good reason....

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
The QSL has been skyrocketing in development. Bringing players like Raul, Cisse, Juninho (he's gone now) and Nene. Al-Sadd has won the ACL last year, a Qatari team. Qatar also is extremly attached to football, investing in PSG, sending out message with the use of Barca's shirt. Also built Al-Jazera Sports, which is a great network to watch Football. Qatar may have not produced a lot a great players, but they are doing there best to get involved in football

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
The German Football League (DFL) is considering the possibility of scrapping the summer break, according to managing director Andreas Rettig.
The notion of abolishing the summer hiatus was first discussed in March at a meeting of Bundesliga coaches, and Rettig has now confirmed they are continuing to debate the topic as they look to prepare for a possible winter World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
"We are discussing the subject very openly," he told Die Welt. "In the end, it also depends on how Fifa finally decided the debate on the relocation of the World Cup in Qatar from summer to winter. Should this happen, it would of course have a great impact on our discussion."
Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has already backed the idea, insisting it would be wise to take advantage of the better weather conditions in the summer.
"From May to August is when we do not play football in Germany, although in these months we have the best weather," he said. "I thought we had better take a break when the weather is bad here. This could be an advantage.
"I can see this model is an opportunity for the Bundesliga."
Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf also feels the summer weather should be utilised, but believes abolishing the break entirely would not be a wise course of action.
"We should not abolish the summer break, but find a different rhythm," he added.
"We have the best conditions in the summer. We need to use it better. Therefore a procedure would have to be worked out. "

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
Well, what is not mentioned there is that the TV bigwigs are against football in summer as the viewing figures are obviously better in the cold part of the year, plus in summer there are lots of people going on holidays which might impact the attendance figures in the stadiums, too. (These arguments were given in the discussion as well as the above ones by KHR and Schaaf)

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
Uefa's 54 member associations have given their backing to moving the Qatar World Cup in 2022 to winter.
"What has come out of this meeting is that the World Cup cannot be played in Qatar in the summer," said Britain's Fifa vice-president Jim Boyce.
"Everyone was certainly in agreement about that."
Boyce added that the debate was now regarding whether it would be played in January 2022 or November and December of that year.

Move it to France for all I care, the Qatar bid was accepted under the premise of them being able to supply air conditioned stadiums, and being able to hold the WC in summer. The bid should be re-evaluated now, not the date moved.

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
Upon further reflection I don't think this is that big a deal. Why should nations with such hot summers be denied the opportunity to host a WC? Moving the WC to another country would effectively exclude any country near the Ecuator.

because it disrupts most club games ffs. It only makes sense. Club precedes over NT whether people like it or not. Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
Clubs have 9 years to plan ahead. Aside from the increased risk of injury (which can be mitigated with a stretched out season), it should disrupt club football only marginally more than a winter break.jibers wrote:because it disrupts most club games ffs. plus the bid was done under the premise being a summer WC. The other losers should sue FIFA. Quatar bribed FIFA anyways. It's pretty obvious. @Falcaopunch Brazil is in the southern hemisphere and most cities don't go over 30 during those months. In the unlikely event that some of the northern cities like Manaus, Fortaleza and Natal get to their record highs and hit 38 degree weather (the average in Qatar) you can bet Brazil will be highly criticized for choosing to host WC games in those cities. Especially if it leads to player fainting.

Makes sense. I'm just saying you said any country near the equator.
And if Brazil's record high for those cities are merely averages for Qatar...

Re: 2022 Qatar World Cup
because it's a massive health hazard for the players as well as the thousands of fans? (i was gonna say millions but lol, like qatar could fit that many)BarrileteCosmico wrote:Upon further reflection I don't think this is that big a deal. hosting the biggest sporting event on the planet is a privilege not a right, if your climate isn't suited to thousands of people lounging and drinking outside throughout the tournament then you're not suited to be a host country, plain and simple
