Javi Martinez vs Sergio Busquets

I guess this comparison is closer than people think now.

Busquets.

I dont think it is. Martinez is a fantastic player, but he is no Busquets.

Tough, physical and still has fine skill on the ball. But Busquets is one of the smartest players in the game, nobody makes better decisons.

Besides, Martinez likes to get forward, hes a different kind of player. Though indeed, he could play more cautiously if he wanted, not many can do that.

Busquets is a very smart player, but he lacks physical qualities. He is perfect for Barca, but in other teams he would struggle. Infact, I wouldn't take him over Khedira.

I'd take him over Khedira in a heartbeat.

It's been a distinct pleasure of mine watching Busquets grow from a La Masia graduate making first team appearances in 08-09 season to the best DM in the world today.

Busquets and it's not close.

Who would have guessed who the best DM in the world was 4 years ago? I didn't know who Busquets was before that season! He's certainly come a long way and watching him not only grow but just watching him as a player, it's a joy to behold for me really.

Javi Martinez for me. Acknowledged to play in multiply positions, more technical, can play outside in a certain system if a Manager deploys it, more likeable, etc...

Sure Biscuits does have the certain capabilities of Martinez but for once, Id like to see him outside the comfort box. Hes an anchorman for Barcelona, like to see what he has more to offer, assuming he has any lol.

Busquets is more technical than Martinez imo. Plus he only plays one more position than Busquets.

Busquets is at his best at DM. It's like Alonso, who doesn't have to play in other positions to prove himself.

He is smart, he hardly ever would allow himself to be put in those positions because his positioning is flawless.

Decision making, timing and being in the right place > physicality

Busquets doesn't dive as much as he used to do. And, while I don't watch Bayern Munich that much, I do remember watching the U21 European championship and saying to myself : wow, for such a big and physical guy, he sure does fall down easy..

Now I haven't seen him play much for his club sides so I don't know if he is like that all the time, but that was the impression that I got when I say that tournament..

That's my point though, I'm not even saying Busquets is bad (at least I'm not right now, I might do that later). I don't think he gets tested enough. What he does, he does well. But the roles he fulfills for Spain and Barca are very specific, and if the system of either ever collapsed, I very much doubt Biscuits would be one to run his lungs out and tackle to save the day.

When I can have players who really bring the hurt when need be, like Vidal, Gustavo, the Benders, or, yes, Martinez... There's just a lot of midfielders I'd trust more with defensive duties in most teams.
Biscuits is near perfect for Barca though, and since he won't be leaving, and Spain have Xaviesta for at least one more tournament, he'll probably be fine, and all this will remain theory-wars.

I would really love to see him, and Pique for that matter, play in another team, tough. I really think Barca & Spain defenders aren't as good as they look.
Except Puyol. He's a f*cking beast.

Does Vidal not play in a system currently for Juventus? Would he able to do what Busquets does? Would Martinez, Bender etc be able to do what Busquets does as well as him?

Anyway, I get why people hate on him. I’m no big fan either. But facts are facts.
He is better than Martinez and don’t let me started for Khedira.

Well first of all, I dont believe in this system crap, it makes almost no sense.

How can it be the system making Busquets look good when other players play in it and they arent able to perform anywhere near his level?

The system doesnt put Busquets in the right place, Busquets puts himself in the right place making the system work.

Players make a system, not the other way around.

Pique? How come Pique was poor last season and superb this one? How can it be possible with the system supposedly protecting them?

Run his lungs out and tackle? Perhaps that player doing that shouldnt be in that position in the first place? Perhaps that player isnt the smartest and could of stopped it earlier by being in a better position.

I dont work in these general terms, every single thing that happens on the pitch is a individual decisions made by a player or players.

It's not inferior, it's probably superior. It's just a system that really doesn't put the defensive pressure on any part of the team, it is distributed equally. This means that all of the team have to work defensively, but it also means that your defensive players don't exactly have to be defensive specialists of the first order.

Bicuits does a lot of things better offensively than most DMs I would take above him, but if I look at a DM isolated, I want him to tackle, intercept, and run like a madman. There's better DMs than Busquets at this part of the game, even though he might have better vision and passing.

See, when there's pressure, Barcas defence sucks. :/
