Who was the last high profile player who left Serie A for another league and was a success?
Recent Serie A OUT transfers I could think of:
Dossena- FAIL
Ibra- FAIL (though some would argue with the verdict)
Aquilani- FAIL (Extra ordinary circumstances, and could still turn it around )
Balotelli- JURY OUT, Not a SUCCESS yet for sure
Kolarov- JURY OUT (Fail IMO, no wonder they bought Clichy, AK has been a disappointment so far)
Veron- FAIL
Shevchenko- FAIL
Quaresma to Chelsea (Loan)- FAIL
Kjaer- FAIL
Kaka- FAIL
I didn't include lesser transfers like Trez to Hercules which was a success, since it was more like a retirement package for him, and not a big transfer.
Interesting, isn't it ?

Well I think that's why Italians aren't in the EPL and Englishmen aren't in the Serie A. Literally I can think of only Macheda, Aquilani, and Balotelli in the EPL on top of that new Fiorentina GK Man Utd signed and the only Englishman (he was Welsh but close enough for this case) I have fond memories of in Italy was John Charles.

Thierry Henry switched from Juve to Arsenal in the late 90ies.
Maybe not recently but the most succesfull I can think of together with Zidane

Exactly my point.
It's been a long long while since a player became a hit and success when transferring outside of Serie A.
It's voodooed in a way

Both Ronaldo and Zidane was more impressive figures in Serie A than LaLiga btw...If you exclude the first barcelona season of ronaldo though

Zidane i agree with but not Ronaldo if you look at games he played in Serie A 3 of the 5 seasons he basically spent injured only playing 17 games in 3 seasons while in his 3 years in Madrid he scored nearly 70 goals in the league alone and this was in a time when La Liga was actually competitive.
He was great in both leagues though and if he remained fit in Italy he probably would have been better there but injury prevented that from happening.

Re: Who was the last high profile player who left Serie A for another league and was a success?
Doesn't this work in every direction?
Last player from the EPL to be successful in Italy
??
Last player from La Liga to make it in EPL
Silva and .....
Last player be successful in La Liga and Serie A
Eto'o and......
Inter-League transfers among Spain/Italy/England don't have a great record all together,,,

And every one of them went to Spain..
Boateng and Robinho were good, can't argue with that

Flamini's a flop
This year was his first with significant time as a starter....and Milans already been trying to push him back to the bench
