Sure, a semifinal of the CL is the best game to match fix for betting purposes.
Some of you are just retarded.
Actually, that seems like a perfect match to bet on because it's a semi, so the stakes will be high

Re: Match Fixing in Europe
Not only that, but the ref obviously thought why make it so easy, by not giving the Ballack handball at the start? And when Chelsea led 1-0, he tried to favor Barca by giving Abidal a red card from Anelka dive?free_cat wrote:cyberman wrote:Barca v Chelsea in 09 must be the game in England...

Sometimes I really hope that before writing in internet one would be required to pass a simplest of logical tests.

Can we stop speculating on what games/teams were involved without sources? This issue is fascinating, and getting the topic/threads closed in the first couple hours only hurts all of us.

8 million is pocket change in the world of football, doubt it is any big reaching syndicate if true. Probably deals with small teams, as I guess non of the big teams would risk so much for such a little return.

Re: Match Fixing in Europe
Rumoured that 2 games under investigation are
Debrecen-Fiorentina
Debrecen conceded 4 goals at home
Liverpool vs Debrecen
Debrecen keeper had money on conceding 3 goals or less, yet the game ended only 1-0 to Liverpool, despite LFC's 9 shots on target
the keeper has been banned for 2 years for match-fixing, and UEFA are just investigating the issue

Currently the stuff is under investigation, so they will try not to make things officially public. I think we will only get to know everything either when some journalists acquire the data somehow or when things go officially into court.BarrileteCosmico wrote:So does anyone know where this report can be obtained? Re: Match Fixing in Europe
From what I read today and yesterday, in the case of Germany, the Europol data mainly contains the fixed matches of the Ante Å apina cases that were already investigated in 2005 and 2009. In 2005, Å apina was sentenced to 2 years and 11 months in prison (he was set free in July 2008), and in 2011 he was sentenced to 5 1/2 years of prison for 51 fixed matches in 2008/09. Altogether there were about 14 persons tried and convicted to altogether 39 years of prison.
In December 2012 the sentence was revoked as there were some procedural problems and the case will go before the court again.
It seems that there are currently no 1st Bundesliga matches involved, and Helmut Sandrock, general secretary of the DFL, states that they currently have reason to believe that no further matches of the German leagues are involved than the ones that were already investigated so far.

Hopefully that's the case in all the big leagues.
It's got to be much easier to fix lower league games, too, because players aren't making much money there and can easier be persuaded to fix a match for financial reward.

Re: Match Fixing in Europe
In lower divisions match fixing is very usual.
Usually it has nothing to do with mobs, but the player themsevles fix it through their captains.
In certain websites, you can even bet for who will have the first throw-in of the game. And this is fixed on a regular basis. I know of several cases of fixing in 2aB and segunda.

You mean that they had money on Debrecen conceding 3 OR MORE, right?
I think it's like that.
So this would be the fixed CL game in england...
Now, where's all the people saying it "must be Barça's match". You petty fools.

Apparently, 23 million euros were bet minutes before a game in the 3rd division of Italy.
There's a big rumor out of UEFA that if Italy is found as one the main places for the issue, UEFA will put a multi-year ban on the country for all European events, regardless of whether it involved Serie A or lower divisions. They consider it as serious as hooliganism in the 80s and we all know how hard they came down on England... They want to force Italy and the football authorities there to deal with the problem once and for all like they did with the UK.

That'd be harsh, but then again it really must be dealt with properly.
BBC reporting that it apparently is the Liverpool 1 - 0 Debrecen game in 2009 that is under fixing investigation. I think I watched it but can't remember any of it, really x)
If Sepi is right that the Debrecen 'keeper had been bribed to concede 3 or more, then quite a fail, that x)
But obviously I'm very very keen on hearing more about this since it's a Liverpool game that is under investigation... I wonder how long it'll be until we hear more from Europol about this? By the summer?

You must be joking RG. If anyone, it hurt us the most. We were the most dominant team in Europe if not the world during that time period. I bet that 80s Liverpool team would be considered among the greatest teams had we been allowed to show our dominance in Europe.

I remember that match. We were so awful, we couldn't score more than 1 on a keeper paid to ship them in
From rawk
I just want to commend our team on their very noble gesture at playing crap in order to foil a betting scam.
