Pepe's haphazard and error prone. He's good at defending, however Varane is better overall and more composed.

Pepe was playing midfield that game,and be honest he was a beast and we barely created anything until he got sent off.Plus he didn't actually touch Alves,he was a bit unlucky really,the ball was there to be won but he was a bit reckless.

And people are making out that Varane hasn't made mistakes? Pepe might make the odd mistake but at his best he is still your best CB IMO.

Why you attack some player like that in their own half so Ref make a mistake? as i said, his hot head is one huge bad thing for him.

his latest mistakes was one goal assist to messi and a goal assist to a Dortmund player ( luckily he didn't score ).

you need players you can trust. rely on them. pepe is great and everything, but not reliable. neither is Ramos.

About Varane making mistakes, honestly, he hasn't done a single mistake yet.

Based on form Varane is currently ahead of both Ramos and Pepe but I'd prefer a Varane-Pepe partnership the two are the best centre backs in Real Madrid. Ramos is too rush for my liking, Pepe is comperatively calmer and more intelligent in defence.

He made a mistake at Utd's goal, due to inexperience, but you can't say anything bad about him. He's too GOoD.

Varane's huge error cost them a goal, otherwise he was pretty solid again.
Same story as last match, one huge mistake the whole match which could have cost RM the tie, he was lucky last time, not this time though.
Other than those he was rock solid.

Wasn't very good last night, allowed Welbeck to run in behind him multiple times, recovered well on that one occasion ,but Ramos clean up well after him during the match. Very naive on the clearance, not to mention the times that he allowed RVP to turn and get shots off. I expected more ..

Every CB makes mistakes. Problem is whenever Rafa has made one Ramos has completely failed to cover for him lol

Anyway the kid is still young and he's doing great.

Why hasn't he kicked on to become the best CB I thought he would be by this point?

I haven't watched Madrid this season but I saw Madrid fans complaining about him on GL and some other places.

He looks disinterested and doesn't play with the same intensity he used too. looks like he doesn't enjoy playing football for this club anymore.

I think he had some offers from top clubs this summer and wanted to leave Real Madrid but Zidane convinced him to stay.

Was never as good as people said as i was saying at the time, just because he could outpace Messi doesn't mean he's gods gift to defending.

He made many errors, more than he he had great games which is understandable considering his age but people were acting like he was flawless when there was many examples of the opposite.

Another classic example of crowning someone as King after a few games and then wondering why he doesn't live up to everyones insane expectations.

Madrid were right to put him behind Ramos and Pepe as despite his potential he never actually proved he deserves it.

He was very good up until the injury he sustained to his knee. After that, his level dropped significantly and was never able to recapture his pre-injury magic.

The thing with Varane is that he fell victim of his own vanity. Instead of trying to displace Pepe through hard work and humility, he chose to bully the club into giving him a starting role even though he didn't do anything to justify it.

At the same âge , Pepe barely had played one full season at top level. He has all the time to improve. Pepe and Ramos are better than him but he's like 10years younger than Pepe lol.

He's better then Ramos

But Pepe is far and away our best defender. He is actually incredibly intelligent and aerially dominant (age does wonders)

Both varane and Ramos need to step it up

Varane's issue is that his injuries > lack of consistent playing time > struggles to find form > hurt his confidence.

Just needs to get a consistent run of games for several months and he'll be fine. His mistakes are more because he feels he needs to show he's great rather than knowing he's great. Tries to make highlight plays, which he never used to. Always been a huge overachiever...
