There was a discussion not along ago about whether RvP now falls into the category of a "luxury player" like Berbatov for United (or anyone else, for that matter). I'd extend that discussion to Carrick, as well. He still has his fantastic passing rage when given time on the ball but his lack of pace and mobility has only gotten worse with age and he's no longer able to cover the ground needed for an effective CM, especially in a two-man midfield. Can United afford to buy this summer with an eye on building around a 32 year old in such a key position?

He has always been a holding midfielder to me, Man Utd been using him in a 2 man since the start, but he has the game of a natural holding midfielder.

He is losing more and more physically, so not surprisingly he is struggling covering space.

So to answer the question, it depends how Man Utd want to play. If its still just the 2, maybe he needs to go, or at least out of the starting line up.

Moyes is a poor manager but someone needs to call out RVP who is literally not trying now. He is trying to get him sacked so clearly.

The fans deserve better than that, but I guess since he won them the league last year he is untouchable right now.

Moyes will have to drop the Baines Idea as he is not a long term option. They will have to spend bucket loads if they want to win the title next season.

I agree that we need new players in, but 6/7 players is too much. I know it might seem like that now, especially with the amount of individual errors, but confidence and belief goes a long way and the team don't have that right now. Last summer, would you have said Arsenal were an Ozil signing away from being title contenders? IIRC, Mole was the only non-Arsenal fan that said he thinks Arsenal would do well this season. How many signings away did you think Liverpool were from top 4 last summer let alone a title challenge? Liverpool had 8 players in their starting line-up yesterday, that were there before Brendan Rodgers. Moyes is just really really out of his depth.

United don't need a bunch of new players only to be managed by David Moyes. First of all they need a new manager who knows what he's doing, knows where he wants to be and how will he achieve that. How come van Persie, Carrick, Evra, Rafael, Vidic, Valencia, Kagawa etc... all gotten worse when Moyes came at United. Do you really think it's a coincidence and they can't do shit anymore? Laughing

Most United players got worse than they are since Moyes arrived, the new players who'll arrive will be hyped as great players and probably are great players but will look crap under Moyes unless he changes his ways. Just look at Mata - he's a great player but won't look good when he's playing out of position on the right wing.

United need to do the right thing and sack Moyes, trust the money to another manager - like van Gaal. He's looking for a new job in England, he's experienced, a hard man, and his teams play sexy football. He'll get them back on track until United find a proper long-term coach.

Sadly, if he's not even showing any semblance of a vision or the process of implementing his philosophy then this should be the end of the road.

Incompetent from the beginning when he let so many of the key staff that helped bring in and foster certain players like van Persie. Was a huge mistake, destroyed players esteem and made him seem unreasonable trying to fit the club around himself and change so many things rather than fit himself into what was already in place.

Kevin Sheedy, the Everton Under-18 coach, has claimed that David Moyes was "never interested in our youth team" during the Manchester United's manager 11 years in charge at Goodison Park. He also claimed the Scot played to draw matches when Everton manager.

Sheedy tweeted: "All of you out there moyes was never interested in our youth team or players. In my 7 years moyes showed no intereset (sic) in our youth team."

When @Nic_Turk tweeted in response: "'@kevin11sheedy: All of you out there moyes was never interested in our youth team or players.' Wow, big statement," Sheedy responded: "truth".

Sheedy, who won two championships, the FA Cup and the Cup Winners' Cup while playing for Everton in the 1980s, also suggested that Moyes's approach was not to lose rather than try and claim victory. That's a lie. I have seen the camera turn to David Moyes in the stands for youth games. He also goes to watch our youth players out on loan, just two weeks ago he went to watch Michael Keane for Blackburn.

EDIT: Oh he is an Everton coach, but Moyes did promote youth players to the first team at Everton. Doesn't seem true what he's saying

Key Manchester United boardroom figures have now turned against David Moyes, as the prospect of the manager getting sacked has been properly raised for the first time, club sources have told ESPN.

The Glazer family owners are now more open to the idea of a change of manager, although they presently remain behind Moyes, but the next week could prove decisive, sources said. Over that time, United must overturn a 2-0 deficit in the Champions League against Olympiakos, before facing an awkward trip to West Ham United and then a potentially daunting second derby of the season against Manchester City.

While qualification for the quarter-finals of the Champions League would be seen as a huge positive and possibly change the entire dynamic of his job, an elimination followed by poor performances in the two games after that could well bring the pressure to breaking point. The Glazers are said to have become very "nervous" about the nature of recent performances, let alone the results, with a nadir coming in the 3-0 home defeat to Liverpool. Some United officials now openly maintain that a managerial change is needed.

Old Trafford sources also state it has been noted that Alex Ferguson is no longer so vocally backing Moyes at boardroom level, although the former manager is not said to have turned against his replacement. It is also believed Moyes retains the backing of Bobby Charlton.

Doubt, however, has increased at virtually every level of the club. Despite the poverty of recent performances, sources state that one of the most influential factors now has been financial concerns. A number of recently signed-up sponsors and commercial partners have reportedly let it be known to the club that they are less than enthused with now being linked to failure, especially since they specifically came on board because of the reputation for extreme success.

This is said to have most unnerved the hierarchy, and long-term damage to United as a "brand" could be the clinching point in any decision. While the club have long planned for a season out of the Champions League - and that was known to be one initial reason behind the previously unwavering support for Moyes - any extra negative effect on commercial revenue would be viewed with utmost seriousness.

Sources also state Louis van Gaal would be interested in a potential summer move to Old Trafford, and that the Dutch coach is a little less intent on the Tottenham Hotspur job than he was a few weeks ago. Spurs had felt that Van Gaal's appointment after the World Cup was virtually certain, but it is now more open-ended.

I'm never one to trust "sources" of any real anonymous kind, especially when the news is so likely to generate interest and hits. That said, it wouldn't be terribly surprising.

Also, is anyone sort of hoping that if Moyes does get let go at the end of the season (or before) Newcastle sack Pardew and appoint him? Well, anyone other than Mole that is.

Evra and vidic are just past it. Kawaga was never given a chance, not under fergie or Moyes. RVP is just not doing anything now. Moyes has a crap tactical plan, and his players can't play for him. Too many cancers at united, the blame is not just Moyes, but many of the united players.
