Napoli punished
I wish I could use the word 'punished' more often, it's such a cool word. Punished. Hah.
Anyway, Napoli docked two points for a 2010 match-fixing attempt.
And their captain Paolo Cannavaro banned for 6 months, that's big
Gianluca Grava was banned for 6 months, too.
How do you think those bans will affect them?
Also if it was up to me, I would have taken those two points off from next season, it's a downer for the players and fans to dock them in the middle of a season, especially since they are challenging for CL spots.

Re: Napoli punished
The betting match fixing investigation has seen Napoli docked two points, while Paolo Cannavaro and Gianluca Grava have been banned for six months.
The Italian Football Federation confirmed the punishments this morning, while also fining the club €70,000.
The outfit were put on trial as part of the probe into match-fixing given the actions of their former goalkeeper Matteo Gianello.
It’s alleged that Gianello tried to fix a May 2010 match against Sampdoria, by asking Cannavaro and Grava to participate.
The duo, however, are said to have refused, but they have been charged with failing to report the match-fixing attempt.
Cannavaro and Grava have insisted they knew nothing of Gianello’s intentions.
The custodian, currently with no club, was also banned for three years and three months today.
Given that Gianello was with Napoli at the time, the FIGC have punished the Azzurri for being ‘objectively responsible’.
Napoli have now slipped from joint third to fifth in the standings.
Napoli are set to appeal, as are the two players still on their books.
.........
After this setback ,dont really see them challenging for the title now.

Re: Napoli punished
Grava is 4th choice, so he doesn't matter.
Canna was in good form, so that's a big issue.
With the -2:
1. Juve 41
2. Inter 34
3. Lazio 33
4. Fio 32
5. Napoli 31 (were on 33)
6. Roma 29
7. Milan 27
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
MILAN ON THE RISE!

Re: Napoli punished
As long as third goes to one of Napoli, Fiorentina, Milan, Roma, or Lazio, its good for Serie A. Besides Milan and Napoli, theyve all gotten much stronger this year and would be able to compete with other big teams in the CL. And Napoli havemt gotten stromger but only weakemed a but and and can still compete. And Milan is Milan.

Re: Napoli punished
Could UEFA kick out Napoli?
It is possible Napoli could be thrown out of the Europa League, or disqualified from next season’s Champions League, after they were docked two points today.
The club was docked two points, while Paolo Cannavaro and Gianluca Grava were handed six-month bans for failing to report a potential fix to the authorities. The players deny the charges, made by former third-choice goalkeeper Mattia Gianello.
]There will be another two stages of the appeals process that Napoli and the players can go through before the sentence becomes definitive.
This could be decisive for their future in Europe as well as Serie A, because the club could be excluded from UEFA competition.
In order to qualify for the Champions League or Europa League, a club “must not have been directly and/or indirectly involved, since the entry into force of Article 50(3) of the UEFA Statutes, i.e. 27 April 2007, in any activity aimed at arranging or influencing the outcome of a match at national or international level.”
Gianello made it clear that Napoli were unaware of his attempted fix of a 2010 game against Sampdoria – an attempt that according to him collapsed very quickly when both Cannavaro and Grava turned him down point-blank – but this still involves the club “indirectly.”
It is because of the ‘indirect’ responsibility that Napoli have been docked two Serie A points.
This could affect Napoli’s qualification for next season’s UEFA competition, but plausibly even the current campaign, where they are in the knockouts of the Europa League.

Re: Napoli punished
Harsh to be fair, don't like Napoli one bit in serie A but again you're punished for staying out of match fixing.
Match Fixer: "Can you throw a game? I will reward you handsomely."
Cannavaro: "No, it's not right to do such a thing, this conversation is over."
Boom, you're out for 6 months son. Good bye.

Don't you think Cannavaro has an obligation to report this match fixer to the authorities?TomJuve wrote:Harsh to be fair, don't like Napoli one bit in serie A but again you're punished for staying out of match fixing.

Re: Napoli punished
Because you have a moral obligation to report that incident? Consider that one of the players is the team's captain, as well.
