Ronaldo broke it last season at 27. So he could be the youngest at 25. Don't take my word for it though.

At 25 Pele had already scored 450+ for his club alone
(granted, most of that was at the regional brazilian competition which is hardly "top flight")

Yeah, 350+ of those were in regional level football.

Ronaldo had 210 at the end of 97-98 season... if it wasn't for that injury... at 25 he could have had 350-400 ...

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has said that breaking Pele's record for goals scored in a single calendar year matters little to him compared to helping his team to collective success.

The Argentine netted his 72nd and 73rd strikes of 2012 against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, bringing him within touching distance of the Brazilian and Gerd Muller's historic tallies of 75 and 85 goals respectively.

"Breaking Pele's record is the least I'm worried about," he told reporters. "We won at a difficult ground, and that was the most important thing.

The 25-year-old will be collecting his Golden Boot on Monday, after he finished last season as top scorer in Europe: "I want to thank my team-mates, without them I wouldn't have been able to win the prize."

Probably slim to nothing, but he's now scoring about 80 goals a year, and nothing says he couldn't score like that for the next 4 years.
Which would land him at 600 goals at the age of 29. Then he would need to score on average 36 goals per year to age 40 to break it, which is highly unlikely.

He's well on the reach on Pele's official goals though, 784.
