Re: Bundesliga Fans
In general, Nationalism is seen in a negative way in Germany, Patriotism is still suspicious... But all those rules go out the window in football, and during the Eurovision Song Contest :p

RoyalBlue wrote:What the f.... is up with that? I'm a German Schalke fan and usually browse some forums from time to time (usually from the opposition). I noticed that everytime I read English speaking football forums, there are tons of "Bundesliga fans". They claim they support Bayern or Dortmund or whatever but root for every f....... Bundesliga team that plays internationally. How in the world could you root for your archenemies just for the sake of the league? It's something I can't really understand.
Well, these regional rivaries don`t play a role for someone from abroad. You must understand that someone who lives putside Germany sees things differently than someone who lives next to the Schalke stadium. If you are living abroad and want to watch Schalke on TV, you probably won`t see them every week. But should the Bundesliga become more popular abroad, more matches will be shown. Hence, people who want to watch a particular Bundesliga club will hope that the Bundesliga becomes more popular abroad, so that his favorite team will also be shown on TV someday. You are lucky to live next the the stadium of your favorite club and get full Bundesliga coverage in Germany.
RoyalBlue wrote:NEVER would I ever support Bayern or that yellow sh** in any competition. I'm hoping that both crash out of the CL as soon as possible and couldn't care less about coefficient points. And NOBODY in Germany would do that. At least I haven't met anybody like that. And I attend nearly every Schalke game and talk to tons of fans of other teams. Also in German speaking forums I never read weird sh** like that.
Have you ever visited a site named transfermarkt.de - you would be surprised how many German fans are cheering for German teams in Europe there. Since your life seems to take place in the Schalke Arena and your only window to the outside world are travelling ultras from the opposing team, you might have a completely distorted view upon reality. And in my reality, the huge majority of German football fans supports German teams in Europe.
RoyalBlue wrote:Every NON-Bayern fan was having a party when good old Drogba sealed the win for Chelsea!
That`s not true.
RoyalBlue wrote:That wanking over Bundesliga teams and the league in general is embarrassing and comes across as having an inferiority complex. Stop that weird cult and stick to one team!!
You seem to have a superiority complex yourself. You claim to be a "true fan" and seem to look down on people who don`t fit into your definition of "true fan". But you are not better or more important than any other "internet fan". An Indian who likes to watch Schalke, doesn`t have to hate Dortmund, wear a mullet and live on social benefits in order to call himself a Schalke fan.

I can understand less popular leagues wanting to stick together, I personally don't do it with English clubs though.

Anyways.....I never have and never will support Lazio in anything they do. Period.
I will wish any other Serie A side good luck in Europe, but them.

Re: Bundesliga Fans
Speaking for myself, I usually hope MLS teams win in the CCL, I think it reflects well on the league and the state of soccer in the country when teams from our league do well in that competition. I dont celebrate their goals/wins or get upset by their goals-against/losses, I just think its good for league as a whole if everyone does well in international club competitions......Except Red Bull, because they're a joke

Re: Bundesliga Fans
Personally i couldn't give a flying monkeys tail what other teams in the league do.
If City, Yanited, Arsenal, Chelsea do shite i couldn't care less.
If Liverpool and Spurs embarrass themselves i honestly couldn't be happier.
I'm a Newcastle fan not a Premier League fan.

Thanks, mate. (although I forgot to mention Polish-sounding surnames when I stereotyped Schalke fans)

I have nothing against fans hating certain clubs and rooting against them in whatever competition they play. But the words "true fan" hit a nerve with me and I had to sign up.

By the way, in the DFB-Pokal I usually root for the underdog and not for the BL teams. I guess I have to be seriously messed up
