Yoann Gourcuff is back

Yoann Gourcuff completed a training session and is on track to face Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League on Thursday.

He finally had a good pre-season and started the season well with a goal in Lyon's opener before injury struck - hope he remains fit as he is yet to show the world his complete talent.

I still like the guy, hope he fulfils his potential because France do need someone like him. I remember his 2008-10 form :bow:

I hope I'm wrong, but Gourcuff just seems like a classic case of "what could've been."

I suppose, at 26, there is still time. However, he's unlikely to ever live up to what was forecast for him.

I hope it's not. Gourcuff has atleast 4 years to play at the top level for me unless injury comes in the way.

I still hope he comes to Arsenal. There is no doubt the boy has class, just needs a bit of tweaking. He was beast like at Bordeaux because he had settled in. Seems like he is one of those players that shows quality only when he feels like he has the coaches trust.

Was such a fan of him back in the days. Then he just went down n down. Still think he is the best CAM france have atm, a genuine creative outlet. He started the season really well and i hope it continues.

We could do with a player like Gourcuff I think (along with Liverpool, Man U). He will come cheapish, and has lots of time to live up to the potential under the right guidance and provided playing time.

To be fair the comparisons were made based on how he played the game. Which at the time was the closest thing to a retired Zidane. I guess its similar to how any promising young Brazilian will get compared to one of Ronaldo, Pele, Zico.

I remember in his at Milan, Ancelotti said that Yoann had psychological issues. No one can deny that he has the talent and the skill of a WC footballer but a weak mentality is the downfall of many greats. I just hope a good manager coaches him and gives him confidence and a positive mentality because he still has time to be great.

Exactly, and it wasn't just the same position which they had in common. Both played for Bordeaux, both similar in height and build, come from the same school, offer the same versatility.

Franck Ribery had mentioned the similarities between the two players as well, stating that he gets “the same sensations” with Gourcuff “that I had when I played in the team with Zidane.”
