That is a BIG difference. And 25 or 28M for a defender who hasn't proven himself outside of the Brazilian league? That's bonkers. I see them wanting more than 10M, but anything more than 20M would be completely rediculous in my book. If I had the chance to turn back the Song deal and spend all of it on Dede (which is indeed a risk, but to a certain extent it always is) I would do it in a heartbeat. I don't think I'm the only one thinking like that, even though Song, as a midfielder, hasn't performed that bad.

Yeah, concur...I like Dedé but Barcelona has had bad luck buying expensive defenders in South America - I think that experimentation is over

Only one I recall is Henrique, who wasn't really expensive.

Caceres for €17 million
Milito for €20 million

While not a defender, still a South American waste of money in Keirrison for €14 million

In my opinion Milito wasn't bad. He was plagued with injuries and never played at 100%. He was solid in air, good at playing the ball and could pull off some wicked long balls. His decision making was poor at times and did cost Argentina in Copa and could have cost Barça in CL against Arsenal.

I don't consider Cáceres bad either. He wasn't up to Barcelona standards at that age at elast but he is a good player. He's shown that in Sevilla and Juve.

I don't see the need for 2 defenders (maybe only if one of the is a left back), or for two forwards (having Deulofeu promoted, + Tello and + Cuenca coming back from his Ajax loan).

I agree about not needing two defenders, but about the forwards, Cuenca has voiced that he'd like to stay on loan with Ajax for another season, hypothetically if we got Nerman next season our starting lineup in the forward would be:

pedro/deulofeu - messi - neymar/tello

and we would probably want a striker like Lewandowski for formations like against Milan when Messi played behind Villa, plus height...
or that would just be my ideal purchases.

The reason I believe that we need two defenders is because: 1. I don't believe we can rely on Puyol to stay healthy anymore and 2. Mascherano is just not a competent enough CB in my mind 3. We have no idea what is going on with Abidal

So for the CB positions all that leaves is Pique and Bartra as natural CB's. If we bring in 2 CB then I feel it would make good competition and raise the level of all the players and get Pique back to being a WC CB.

The reason I believe we need two forwards is because I don't believe the crop of Deulofeu, Tello, and Cuenca are not good enough for big games. I believe we will end up selling Villa and Sanchez, Which leaves us with Messi and Pedro as proven Champions league quality players.

So in my mind #1 on the list will be Nerman and #2 I believe should be a Suarez, Kun, Lewandowski type of forward who can stay in front of Messi ala Villa vs Milan.

wait, Caceres wasn't bad, just inexperienced...u guys got him at a young age...

Surely Barzagli's replacement in a couple of seasons...

Caceres would of never become the player he has now with us, just wouldnt of happened. Needed a change and just seemed consistently worried by the expectations.

It was mostly on the ball where he struggled, defensively he was alright.

Your right Barca don't need two defenders, they need 3.

Pique and Alves are the only ones worthy of the shirt atm and Alves primary job isn't to defend so that leaves with you Pique.

Puyol is over, Mascherano isn't a CB to begin with and Alba and Adriano are jokes defensively.

There are more problems to Barca than just the players, but if you ignore the fact you have gone from Puyol and Abidal to Bartra and Alba/Adriano the defence will still struggle.

I think first of all individuals arent the problem really, I dont think signings will magically transform the lack of organisation and team play.

Yes, without question we need a defender and forward but before any of that, you need a team who follows an plan.

I agree with Mole minus Adriano, he can defend. He wasnt very good yesturday, I was very annoyed how he seemed to not know Robben was left footed, but I have seen enough, I know he can defend. True, dont need him and Alba, think one of them should of been in the Abidal safety type mold a player but if Adriano wasnt injury prone I would be good with him in his old role as back up.

And I got to say, I am a little tired of people always pointing the finger at the defence.

I am the first to say we need better defenders, mostly at leftback and center...but look at the goals and chances we concede, many of them are not the defenders, they come through higher up the pitch.

People dont like saying it, but its often Xavi and Iniesta defensively...in fact noone ever says it, but its a fact.

Its not actually their fault, you cant be relying on them for defence...they are limited, the reason it worked in the first place is they had a system to follow defensively, a role to play...now they are freelancing.
