Russian giants Zenit have confirmed their capture of Genoa and Italy left-back Domenico Criscito.

In a note on their official website, Luciano Spalletti’s club have netted the player on a five-year deal.

The left-back, who has also played for Juventus in the Italian top flight, will join Zenit on July 8.

It was thought that Criscito would be joining Napoli this summer after the Azzurri did a deal with the Marassi outfit.

However, agreeing personal terms with his hometown club was problematic and he’s now opted for a switch to Zenit instead.

The Russians did initially fail in a January bid to sign the 2010 World Cup player.

Inter and Paris Sanit-Germain were also said to be pondering an offer for the player who will be 25 at the end of next month.

Good for Zenit, Bayern Should have consider him alongside Rafinha...

Henderson or Adam has nothing to do with Meireles exit.When Meireles signed last year he was on relatively low wages(30k/week) as we were for sale.Was promised wage hike if he had a good season.

Bu the new management has a principle of not giving huge wages for older players.So when new contract was offered with pay hike to Meireles but he rejected it because it was less than promised.

So we will sell him if good offer comes in but him going of is not set in stone.Unless an offer of around 17-18 mil euros comes in i expect him to stay.

Edit: If we sell Meireles we will most likely buy a replacement.

Well really it has nothing to do with where he is from, but he is still trying to create an 11 man English team . Probably the scouts.

Liverpool would be stupid to sell Merieles if this was true.

We have so far signed 2 english men and 1 uruguaian.And the only other English player linked with us is Downing.How is signing 3 English players trying to create a team of 11 English men?

Wellllll is you want to be cheeky than I could say Criscito was a target of Inter's. As is Meireles and i can see him coming this week for 10 Mil. Reoprted on various English papers, Portoguese tabloids, etc, etc.

what the hell are u talking ???well first of all he moved to zenit coz 1.zenith met genoa's fee demands 2.criscito was offered a higher salary than he would earn at genoa or napoli..2.5m million to be precise 3. no other team was interested in him even if inter pretended to be ,they dint make an official offer..

if u think serie a is the 5th best league then u certainly need help..

I know Criscito is going to Zenit . Actually knew it since the last two days, I meant the Meirless leaving Liverpool. That would be a dumb move, he was one of Liverpool's best players after Hodgson left.

They only way i can see Meireles making any sense is if we have decide to play 4-4-2 next season.

If that is the case Meireles would be a squad player and we might want to cash in on him and bring in a younger replacement.Still would be gutted.
