Guti
How far could have this guy gone if he was more serious ?
When he had his day you couldn't find a better player IMO. The definition of class and talent, but he never tried.
One of my favorites, good luck on, Guti !

Re: Guti
One of my all-time favorite players. Shame he was so frustratingly inconsistent and nonchalant. I haven't witnessed any other player who matched his level of vision, whenever he decided to give a crap. He spent a good portion of his career looking like he happened to walk onto the pitch, but I like to remember him for his classy performances and ability to effortlessly decide games.

Re: Guti
Guti was insanely gifted in the elegance and beauty of football on the pitch.
I feel football has moved away from that sort of elegance that the previous generation was so well known for. It's much more mechanical now.

Re: Guti
Thing about Guti was that he saw assists the same way that strikers see goals. One of the most frustrating things about the team (and maybe the current version of the sport) today is that everyone is looking for a goal and no one is looking to create it.
Sid Lowe wrote:He could have scored himself. But scoring would have been too easy; in the words of one of Guti's former team-mates, it would have been "too vulgar". Too ordinary. Too dull. Too normal. Too so what? Guti, said AS's editor Alfredo RelaƱo, is a cross between Danny Blanchflower and Curro Romero. Blanchflower once claimed that "the game is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom," while Curro Romero was a bullfighter. And in bullfighting, it is not about the result, invariably 6-0, but the art, the style, the skill. The means, not the end.

Re: Guti
Guti on why he didn't leave Real Madrid despite mostly being used as bench player:
"I could've. I had offers. But playing 30 minutes at Real Madrid are better than 90 minutes in any other team."
