It's not a matter of settling. It's a matter of not being afraid. Plus it's simple logic. If Manchester City is willing to pay more than everyone else, why should we be afraid if he goes there? It won't make them a better team, particularly not in the long run. If they unload Tevez or Dzeko to clear a spot for Van Persie, what have they accomplished? They've just swapped players for the sake of doing it. And they've taken on more injury risk as well. If they keep Aguero, Dzeko, Balotelli and Tevez, how much is Van Persie even going to play? So if they offer a few million more than the others, take the money and invest in making Arsenal better. Whether or not Van Persie plays for Manchester City or Juventus makes no difference to Arsenal except in the fee recovered. The pride is in beating your rivals, not in worrying about who is playing for them. I don't lose any sleep over Nasri playing for them. I won't over Van Persie either if that's how it plays out.
Hell, if you're worried about playing against him, swap him to Blackburn Rovers for N'zonzi and let him play out his contract in the Championship.

That's another reason I'd be against that. Imagine how demoralizing it would be to see your own *bleep* captain sporting United's red? I'd be nauseous. We can't keep having the Cannon taking hits at it's prestige like that.
But you see, this just feeds into the summer penis-waving contest (I said it again. ). I don't care what some silly fans of other clubs think about it. I don't care what happens to a player who doesn't want to play at Arsenal anymore. All I care about is building the best Arsenal squad possible and getting results. On the pitch is where you really whip out the big penis, not in the newspapers or on message boards or in the middle of people talking on the street.
Now, as I said previously, I'd be less enthusiastic about seeing him at United than at City because Fergie would get the best out of him and they might actually be better for it. Again, I don't think he makes City better. But even at that, you're just taking playing time away from Welbeck and Chicarito. If Van Persie goes to either Manchester club, he'll have to get used to not being the main man. I'm not sure how well he will handle that at this point. Plus, he might get injured before we even get to September. You never know.

City paid £20 million + for a hunk of crap like James Milner
Even at 29 and a dogged fitness past, RVP is worth much more than £20 million as far as the prostitute clubs are concerned

Again, it's one thing to sell him to City where he'd be less likely to excel and watch his transfer money quietly disappear and another to actually get a worthy replacement and offload him. To City? That would be demoralizing to the squad watching their captain tuck tail and run to the evil empire imo and I'd hate to see him in light blue but if the price is right who knows?
I stand firm in being against selling him to United. No, just no.

Apparently, Theo Walcott wants to stay, but wants top level pay and a 4 year deal. Arsenal are reluctant to give it to him.

Who do you consider a worthy replacement? Arsenal has already bought Giroud. I see no reason he can't do just fine. I also don't think Arsenal needs to replace all of Van Persie's goals in one player. In fact, I think it's better not to rely on one player so much for goals. I think having already brought in Giroud and Podolski, Arsenal could maybe use part of the money to bring in someone such as Mirallas and the rest to strengthen other areas of the squad. I don't think Arsenal needs to buy a big name just for the sake of a big name.

As I would be. Until he develops more consistency and a better finishing touch, he's just not worth it. Speed and skill just aren't enough. He's a player who can be replaced.

I agree. I want him to stay, and I think he's a great player to have, but in no way does he deserve top wages. £80k p/w is probably as far as I would go.

Re: The Official Arsenal Summer Transfers/Rumours Thread
Speaking of new deals:
According to TF1, Laurent Koscielny is on the verge of signing a 3-year extension to his current deal at Arsenal.
L’Equipe claimed last week that the French international was set to be rewarded by Arsene Wenger after his considerable improvement since signing two years ago from Lorient.
It is believed that Koscielny’s agent was in London today to oversee the penning of the new deal with an announcement expected in the coming days.
Interestingly (or perhaps that should read ‘worryingly’) the article also hints that both Barcelona and Inter Milan have been keeping an eye on the 26-year-old with his current contract at the Emirates ending in 2014.
News of Koscielny’s decision to commit to Arsenal comes as a welcome boost at a time when most of the headlines are being made by supposed ‘wantaway’ players stalling on talks with the Gunners hierarchy.

I'd say a young player who has at least some of his versatility. Jovetic comes to mind but a huge price tag follows, I don't know a great deal abut Mirallas but what I do know is he is a pacey striker who can play on the wings or in an SS role which would be a great deal.
Also, that Koscielny news is fantastic. He deserved the reward and we needed the extension.

I may be the only one here but i would give 100k p/w to Walcott, It's not because he is worth it but because we need him. Losing him would basically mean a world wide riot among the Arsenal fans. Walcott wants to stay, and i don't believe that money is his demand but his agents.
If he wants more than 100k p/w then we should just let him leave but we could try for 80-100

Villareal have reported Malaga for missing payments on the Santi Carzola deal.
I think there could be a realistic chance that Carzola leaves Malalga.

Fine by me. Get him out of the PL if he thinks that'll help him save face with the fans and challenge for trophies. Shame he's going to a league that's losing ground quickly to the rest of the top 5 leagues, Ligue 1 included now that PSG raided Milan.
Glad our two first choice CBs are tied up long term and that Cazorla news is great.

Re: The Official Arsenal Summer Transfers/Rumours Thread
I agree. At this point, I want them to sell him. I don't want a guy around who doesn't want to be there. And the sooner the better. Then Wenger can turn his attention to bringing in more players. That said, though, I want Arsenal to get value for him in return. I don't want them to dump him at a cut rate. If it were me, first team to offer 20 gets him. If somebody wants to jump in with a bigger bid, fine.

Shame Sky Italia really aren't that reliable.
If he's not included in the Asia tour squad, he's 90% gone, in my books.
And it'll be interesting to see if we have any serious interest in Cazorla. I hope there is.
