GoonerJay29 wrote:I think we've had a misunderstanding here. I'm not referring to Arteta, Song and Coquelin as playmakers that play further up the pitch and look to create chances a la Cesc. I'm referring to them as deep-lying midfielders who's job is to distribute the ball and play a more disciplined role.
Nuri Sahin plays the latter role, not the former. That's why I don't think we should go after him. We already have, potentially, four players that can play that deeper role in midfield - Arteta, Wilshere, Song and Coquelin.
I'm not disputing that we might need a playmaker who plays further up the pitch. I've pretty much been advocating for us to sign one since the summer started.
I see what you saying and I do agree with you, I thought you were saying we dont need any more midfielders. As long as we get another midfielder I am happy.

Another CM? We have already too much, it would make more sense if we sign an AM or a DM. Preferably a defensive midfielder.

I know we do, but we do need another player as good as Artea to general the midfield and make competition for others. We cant burn Arteta out, he is too important to our team to burn him out.

Agreed. What I'm trying to say is that one of Song or Arteta has to be benched for a more defensive player, our back 4 gets almost no protection and we received too much goals last season because of that. Nuri Sahin doesn't fit that type of defensive player.

I don't care what United or City offer, RVP shouldn't be sold to any PL rival.

We can't sell to another EPL club no matter what, we all know how good he is and I'm sure the club would accept a lesser offer if it meant he was no longer in the EPL.

Agreed, and I definitely don't think we would sell him to United, probably why we told them he's not available.
Is Juve even still interested in RVP? Besides BPL teams and them who else is there?

I think Wenger would probably even be willing to sell to City or United over Juventus just so to make sure he doesnt lose his Caramello bet

Just like Nasri last year, United wanted him and City went and overpaid us, the same thing will happen.
RVP will be sold for 30m to City.

@YoungGunsBlog
Arsenal will take a look at Linus Wahlquist on trial next week. Sweden U17 defender. Already had trials at Milan. Highly rated.

Not me. I have absolutely no fear of Robin Van Persie going to Manchester City. They do not make themselves a better team by dumping Tevez or Dzeko (or both) in order to buy RVP. All they do is put on another show, trying to grab headlines and win the summer penis-waving contest. And even if they add him to their current roster of strikers without ridding themselves of any of the big four, he probably just gets lost in the rotation and becomes unhappy that he's no longer the guy with the biggest penis. Besides, I still have little confidence in his ability to get through a season without missing significant time with injury. So I say if City wants to offer 30 million or anything close to it, take the money and run.
I would be less enthusiastic about seeing him go to Manchester United because Fergie would know how to get the best out of him.

I have to agree with Mudcat, as much as I hate the idea of losing another player to those c*unts. Especially on Mancini being less than half a wanker compared to Ferguson.

I really dont care where RVP goes, as long as we get good money. I hope he goes to City and when he plays against us Vermaelen will destroy him.

Realistically speaking you're not going to get more than £20m for him.Not even City would overpay in this case with FFP kicking in nor would Man United.

@YoungGunsBlog: Real Sociedad have announced that, as well as a sell on clause, Arsenal have the option to buy back Vela at any point. Interesting.

Is this something new where the clubs make new options to buy the player back at any point? I know Barcelona has been doing something like this. This is good for the selling club.

Re: The Official Arsenal Summer Transfers/Rumours Thread
It's usually common practice not to reveal how much the buy-back clause is, just that is exists. It means that, regardless of how high the player's valuation might get, we can buy him back for a certain price.
Real Madrid did it with pretty much every kid they're sold, though they've never made use of them. Sociedad could just offer Vela a new contract and get rid of it, in theory.

lol, you said penis.
But seriously, regardless of the outcome of his transfer, unless we made use of a ridiculous 30 million bid that we're not going to get by buying someone with the potential to replace RVP then no, it's not worth accepting the bid and strengthening, or risking strengthening a PL rival.

If RVP goes to City he has to fight like a dog to get minutes, City has 6 strikers and only one starts.
Carlos Tevez.
Mario Balotelli.
Kun Agüero.
Edin Dzeko.
Santa Cruz.

Jamie Sanderson (YoungGunsBlog) mentioned a 3million pounds buy-back price.

That's another reason I'd be against that. Imagine how demoralizing it would be to see your own *bleep* captain sporting United's red? I'd be nauseous. We can't keep having the Cannon taking hits at it's prestige like that.

It's not a matter of settling. It's a matter of not being afraid. Plus it's simple logic. If Manchester City is willing to pay more than everyone else, why should we be afraid if he goes there? It won't make them a better team, particularly not in the long run. If they unload Tevez or Dzeko to clear a spot for Van Persie, what have they accomplished? They've just swapped players for the sake of doing it. And they've taken on more injury risk as well. If they keep Aguero, Dzeko, Balotelli and Tevez, how much is Van Persie even going to play? So if they offer a few million more than the others, take the money and invest in making Arsenal better. Whether or not Van Persie plays for Manchester City or Juventus makes no difference to Arsenal except in the fee recovered. The pride is in beating your rivals, not in worrying about who is playing for them. I don't lose any sleep over Nasri playing for them. I won't over Van Persie either if that's how it plays out.
Hell, if you're worried about playing against him, swap him to Blackburn Rovers for N'zonzi and let him play out his contract in the Championship.
