maybe messi is overrated after all
So its been official that spain has won the third large tournament in a row. Some people say that spain is the best national team ever with the players like xavi, iniesta who truly represent tiki taka football.
Now dont get me wrong messi is fantastic but with this system its proven over and over again that its a winner.
Take messi out of this system and then we can clearly see how good he is. They did that with argentina and see how it worked out 0 goals in copa and wc.
imo its this spain that makes the barcelona team so unique messi has little to do with it. yes he scored alot of goals but barcelona would still win with another good striker up top. Even torres ended up top scorer of euro scoring hardly a single goal in premier league
Im in a bit of a hurry but you guys can continue this thread. Hope you understand my message

If Spain had Messi they'd be much better. At the Euros we clearly saw Spain lacked something at times. They had to take off Fabregas, put Torres on etc etc. I'm sure Messi would make the Spain team more complete.

I can't ever understand how people can produce such a superficial analysis to make a conclusion or a claim.
Have you not seen Messi play? What in the world is it about his play that makes you think he is overrated?

Also the "x barca player makes y look better than he's" paradox continues

Spain hardly dominates world football. Not like Barca used to dominate club football. Winning 3 tourneys does not mean you are beating everyone with ease like Brazil used to do in their golden days.

Spain hasnt had to play teams like Brasil or Argentina in these competitions. THey would struggle a lot more with teams full of fast technical players

Saying Messi is overrated is either meaningless or false. Because he is the best (considered by most professionals in football), so you can never rate him high enough.

Re: maybe messi is overrated after all
NT football(especially knockout) and club fb are totally.diff. The quality of nt footy is generally shit. These players get together and practice maybe maybe 5 times a year. You have almost no time to establish a unit and get a tactical game plan going. This alone gives spain(and germany to a lesser extent) a huge advantage as their team is mainly barca, and they practice their style year round. Not to mention having the continuity of a good coach in del bosque for several years, while teams like argentina and brazil run through managers. Despite this they couldve easily lost to portugal or croatia. Put in the same quality of performance in a club season and you'll finish far off the pace. Or put in an off color performance in the cl against a good team and see what happens(ie real madrid vs bayern, man city vs. napoli).

Which national team have 9 players from just 2 clubs (4 from R.Madrid+5 from Barcelona) . this makes Spain the best, they practice everyday during a year in their clubs. Messi has only 1 club mate in his side and its mascerano who has nothing to do with the attack
Spain would fail in club football, scoring 1 goal every game you can not win CL or La Liga

They would struggle in South America where the conditons are not suited towards European sides (as stats show with the amount of South American teams winning the WC at South America, vice versa for European teams win at Europe) and therefore Spain would have a harder time playing against these teams.

Some points I disagree but for the most part I agree with this thread. It's more obvious now.

Between june- august the general opinion is that Messi is nothing without Xaviesta but then between september-may Barca is nothing without Messi...
Can you decide once and for all which of the two it is? ffs
