Madrid, Chelsea, City, The media, clubs for letting players demand extortionate wages. Maybe it's just the way it was going to happen. There should be a cap on player salaries. Football will run itself into the damn gutter.

Well, he was worth it.
Those are the times I constantly heard Newcastle followed by ManU.

Well we were the best team in the league at the time we just thought we could outscore everyone and Utd had a superior winning mentality ( but tbf majority of the time we did)

Re: Who is at fault for the inflated player prices?
The blame should go to the lack of poor scouts and lack of poor academies. How many world class academies are there ATM? 10 maybe? Not many players become good these days.
Chelsea has to take a fair share of the blame as well... but atleast we made use of those money spent by staying in the CL and winning trophies. And recently(apart from Sheva and Torres) we have spent the money wisely... in 2003 we had to spend a lot to build a new team. and a few years after that. Now Chelsea can afford to buy young players at a cheaper price.(Piazon, Kakuta, Sturridge and etc).

oh and i forgot the clubs from portugal for demanding exorbitant prices.... Ă–zil playing for Lissabon or Porto would have cost about 35Million instead of 14

Barca are the second highest spenders after Real Madrid so they too are responsible.

But to be honest, soooo overpriced... i mean would Bayern have an Abramovic in the back i also wouldn't worry about transfer fees....i could say "hey we need player x so lets buy him if its below 40Mil." ... but a club without a financial superpower has always rate the price/benefit ratio.
So in case of Bayern we need 1(2) CB(s) soooo much , but though we wouldn't pay 20 Mil. for Boateng or Alex because its simply to expansive. And if you begin to pay those high prices, every club tries to suck the money out of you in future transfers (eg. ManCity,Real and so on.)

Portuguese clubs aren't at fault. It's not like the force you to pay their insane prices.

Re: Who is at fault for the inflated player prices?
I believe it to be Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo who are responsible for the inflated market. If someone like Arjen Robben for instance is worth 35million euros, and is incomparable to the likes of Messi and CR7, then that why Messi has a 150mil buy out and Ronaldo transfered for 96mil. Its this new breed of super-human footballers I tell you!
Re: Who is at fault for the inflated player prices?
Its only in recent times that the market is inflated though.EarlyPrototype wrote:Lionel Messi wrote:based on what? Real Madrid and Man City are the biggest spenders by farEarlyPrototype wrote:Barca are the second highest spenders after Real Madrid so they too are responsible.

If you had bothered to go back a page I said "Real and City". Barca are also responsible.

Re: Who is at fault for the inflated player prices?
Madrid did not inflate the market. They are paying what they can afford to pay. It is not a fault to be a big brand and to monetize it. It is called competitive advantage and one big power will not lead to inflated prices. Which other club has the spending power of Madrid?
The clubs which inflated the market are Chelsea and Manchester City and other clubs owned by sugar daddies. These clubs have lower revenue and on its own it can never afford to pay what it did over the past few years. This is the source of the ability of the selling clubs to demand huge prices and get them and hence you get inflated prices across the board for all players.

samuel 25 mil euros
robinho 24 mil euros
gago 20 mil euros
mahamadou diarra 26 mil euros
figo 37 mil euros
anelka 22.3 mil pounds in 1999 (OMG! i think the idiocy of madrid started here)
i think that's enough to put most of the blame on madrid.
ok it's fair to say if it weren't for madrid's transfers, we wouldn't hear so much of silly bids like like pastore, aguero, modric, sneijder or fabregas for 50 mil euros.

nah madrid started it with it's first galaticos era, which made chelsea have to pay so much for its players. then the second galaticos era, it made man city have to pay so much.
