Who is at fault for the inflated player prices?
Nowadays when a club annonces that it has 50m euro to spend on transfer it seems like peanuts, because you can't get much for that, if you look for quality. You have to have 100m+ for a decent chance of signing a couple of wc players. This is one area which football have gone to the worse. If this inflation continues, the clubs might start asking more moneyy from supporters. football becomes more expensive.¨
so which clubs are at fault here?

It all started the summer Ronaldo and Kaka went for 140m+ , n Robben and Sneijder were sold for under 40M combined. IMO, it introduced a new pricing era

Re: Who is at fault for the inflated player prices?
World-class quality (and youngish) players cost ridiculous sums because there are a handful of teams who can afford those outrageous prices (Madrid, Barca, City, Chelsea, Inter...). Very good players don't necessarily cost like crazy.
Moreover, it's good to keep in mind that European football leagues have been growing their revenue year-in year-out. There's a bit more money to go round than, say, 5 years ago, but we still tend to compare transfer fees to what they were some years ago. Roughly put: 15m spent in 2005 = 20m spent in 2011.

It's not like Madrid just ponies up 20% more than what a player is valued at just to get him. You do realize that the teams we buy from demand the prices we pay???
So... pretty much every other team in the world besides Madrid.

Madrid could simply refuse to pay those demands, and give a counter offer. Then the selling club comes back with a slightly lower demand than it's first, etc.
It's called negotiating.

Obviously.
But at the same time, we have stupid money. If it really comes down to like 1 mil or 2, whatever, it's not our place to keep fees low and football fair throughout Europe. If anything we should be exploiting our advantage.
And also, take current situations as examples. Atletico: "You want Aguero? 45 mil." Us: "How about 35?" Atletico: "Buyout clause. 45."
Santos: "You want Neymar? 40 mil." .............

What if the selling club has no need to sell and refuse to sell at a lower price? Negotiating wont work in every scenario.

Once you broke the bank and paid 100 million for a player, no club would let you take their players cheaply anymore.

Re: Who is at fault for the inflated player prices?
I dont think any single club is to blame.Unlike in yesteryear not many clubs need sell to buy and are financially stable these days. Also there are plenty of clubs who can afford to pay top dollar for players. So automatically it inflates the cost of players.

Then you look elsewhere for a similar player at a better price. There is never an excuse for paying the types of fees we've seen with CR and Kaka.BeautifulGame wrote:RedOranje wrote:Madrid could simply refuse to pay those demands, and give a counter offer. Re: Who is at fault for the inflated player prices?
The revenue argument would be valid if clubs did not have any debt.
I think that increased exposure in the media, introduction of new fan markets, markets who are fickle by nature (as new markets are often are), and the attempt at attracting more band wagoners (who make a lot of money) puts pressure on Clubs to offer ridiculous amounts in order to stay at top, or reach the top. Sheiks are not helping either, why the frak don't they use their money in something productive, like transforming Somalia.
Also, since clubs are competing with each other, according to game theory, unless all clubs reach a mutual understanding over negotiation, like the Italian clubs have, the whole thing will spiral out of control. Remember Dzeko, he obviously wanted Juve, Juve wanted him, Wolfsburg wanted money, which is perfectly fine. But in a world where Sheiks don't exist, Dzeko would not have been bought with such an inflated price.
Not to mention, the difference in tax laws between countries.
Finally, while revenue increases, so does expenditure. If this continue, most clubs profits will be in the red (a lot are right now). The fans will have to pay more, but the players will still demand more.

Who else is there available that is as good as Ronaldo? why should a team go for an inferior player when they have the money to buy Ronaldo?
Also is there any scale which determines every player is worth this much? One could easily argue that 11 mil United paid for an unproven Ronaldo was not value for money. If Fergie went for a similar young player on cheap then United would never have got the success they had.

A combination of factors. Serie A in the 90s/early 2000s, Chelsea, Real Madrid (especially the Ronaldo fee), Man City etc.

Barca generate most of their players from their youth academy. A couple stupid signings don't make them accountable for the ridiculous prices players go for currentlyynwa wrote:pdolson wrote:madrid, city, chelsea, liverpool. but mainly madrid.
