Elm, I believe this Giacomela guy is on powerful stuff, however, he is right on Italy getting eliminated no matter how many goal they ship past Ireland if Spain-Croatia ends in 2-2 draw.

The thing is, this is not a league, it is a tournament, if three teams of a group of four tie on same points, the results of the three teams against the fourth team becomes irrelevent, and what counts is what transpired between those three teams and number of goals they scored against each other.

In this case, Italy has got only two goal scored vs Spain and Croatia combined, and if Spain-Croatia ends in 2-2 or a draw of more goals, Spain and Croatia will each have more than two goals scored in Italy vs Spain vs Croatia mini-league, and hence Italy will be booted out.

Remember Euro 2004? Italy knew beforehand that no matter how many goals they score against Bulgaria, they will be eliminated if Sweden-Denmark ended in 2-2 draw, that is exactly what happened, and that is why Italy cried foul then. Now we are in the exact same situation again, and I hope Italy will qualify this time around.

although i do have to admit, that i agree in the narrowest of narrow scopes, in that i feel prandelli missed the mark a bit in this game...

i think he's not putting players in roles where they can really shine. for example, giac. did ok at lwb, but he can offer more up the pitch. hell, i prefer him as one of the 3 in the center over motolivo (but that's more of a personal bias).

additionally, i think there's a huge disconnect between the midfield and the fwds. when there's too much space between the two levels (mids and fwds) it's easy for the fwds to get isolated and double-teamed.

personel wise, i'd like to see gio get much more time, if not the start (instead of cassano). i feel that guy is dying to prove everyone wrong on the field. that's just my, non-knee jerk two cents.
