Who would win this game of Bench teams?

----GERMANY----
--Wiese--
--Lars Bender-- --Howedes-- --Mertesacker-- --Schmelzer--
--Kroos-- --Sven Bender--
--Schurrle-- --Gotze-- --Reus--
--Gomez--

----VS----

----SPAIN----
--Reina--
--Arbeloa-- --Albiol-- --Marchena-- --Juanfran--
--Fabregas-- --Borja-- --Thiago--
--Cazorla-- --Llorente-- --Mata--

(You can change whichever players you want for better choices as long as their not usual starters on a fully healthy Spain/Germany team.)

Germany win with

----------------- Zieler
Bender - Höwedes - Hummels - Schmelzer
---------- Gündogan --- Kroos
Reus ------------ Götze ---------- Schürrle
----------------- Gómez

Though granted, Bender will be missed as a DM/destroyer-type CM, there just isn't a fourth defender on the bench, though. Ironically, though, by individual ability, Höwedes and Hummels are probably Germanys two best CBs.

Meh now that I've written that squad out, Spains bench might beat our bench on the sole reason that Lars Bender is both the replacement for Lahm/Boateng and Khedira, while Höwedes is Lahm/Boatengs 2nd backup, which is nice versatility, but doesn't give me the redundancy to properly replicate Germanys first XI, this side will have to hold onto the ball better, since both Gündogan and Kroos are worse at winning back the ball than Schweinsteiger and Khedira.

Luckily, though, Höwedes and Hummels are both waaaay faster than Mertesacker and Badstuber.
(This is assuming a starting XI of: Neuer; Boateng Mertesacker Badstuber Lahm; Khedira Schweinsteiger; Müller Özil Podolski; Klose)

But since the overall squad is only 23 people, and you have to take 3 GKs, one position is bound to not be properly covered.
So either of Bender or Gündogan plays FB or CB.

This is a much better 2nd choice team than the one in the OP, I can see Spain running away with it.

I wanna know why Villa and Puyol are on Spains team here. When healthy, both are definite starters. Spains fully healthy back 4 when healthy is Ramos-Pique-Puyol-Alba. And Villa most of the time starts up top by himself when healthy or paired with Torres. So Villa and Puyol are not counted here and Torres is even arguable. Also, i was mainnly trying to stick to players that were called up, besides a few exceptions where there is no.proper backups. Hence Juanfran being in it and no Iraola. Also hence why Bender is put at FB instead of someone like Beck or even Contento.

If I had both Benders I could've built a winning team, but I worked solely with the official Euro 2012 bench players.

Ramos is now a CB and imo is better than Puyol. Also if Villa started than Torres/Alonso/Silva would be on the bench.

When Puyol is healthy, Ramos gets pushed out to RB. Thats well known. And when Villa is healthy, either Alonso/Busquets is dropped for a 442, or Torres is dropped for a 451. Either way, a healthy Villa starts every time.

Alonso and Busquets aren't dropped. Also Ramos has played at CB for Spain this year.

Ramos has only played as a CB for Spain this year because one of Puyol or Pique wsre always out. When theyre both healthy, Ramos is pushed out to RB. And youre right thag usually Alonso and Busquets start, as it is usually Villa ip top alone with Torres on the bench. But they have dropped one of the mids before and put Torres ip top. But youre right about that, Torres is the one on the bench most of the time, not Alonso or Busquets.

Against Venezuela Puyol was on bench while Ramos started at CB. I think from now on Ramos will remain at CB, even when Puyol is fit.

He's played 4 times with Puyol during October-December last year and he played at CB 3 times.
