Seinfeld vs Friends

Which show would you say is better? If you could post your reasons that would be cool....

I honestly always preferred Seinfeld. I think that the acting by Kramer and George is brilliant. All four characters are different and unique, and they all interact very well with one another. I love the writing too. I mean the stories in the show, even if it isn't really too funny or something, you always wanna find out what happens at the end, because you know that the stories between the four all tie up at the end. Friends is like a copy of Seinfeld where the proportion of drama and comedy are inverse.

Seinfeld = 10% drama, 90% comedy
Friends = 90% drama, 10% comedy

Even then, that 10% comedy in Friends is nowhere near as original or unique as Seinfeld. Watching Friends, it feels like a soap opera with an occasional joke thrown in. Whereas, in Seinfeld, the jokes and absurd scenarios form the centre-piece of the episode.

I think those numbers are horribly inflated for the sake of your argument...so I'm guessing you don't actually feel those numbers are true, but more to get your point across.

I do get your point though, I don't feel it's entirely accurate...but I do get your point.

I only really prefer Friends because I grew up watching it and never gave Seinfeld a chance. The couple times I've seen Seinfeld I've quite liked it, and would hazard a guess I would like it more than Friends given more time spent watching Seinfeld. I don't watch much TV though...

Basically, I have an admittedly biased view towards Friends due to watching it much more, so I don't really give my opinion much merit on this one

Of course I just made the numbers up, but I have seen quite a bit of both shows.

I grew up on Friends, not much Seinfeld.....I'll be bias and say friends

Friends is a strong ensemble comedy series, no doubt about it but Seinfeld in a landslide, for me...In fact, I think so many Seinfeldisms have entered into the American culture as well

I think Jerry is probably the weakest actor of the group and Elaine doesn't get quite enough credit for her work...Of course, Kramer, George and many of the ancillary characters (Banya, Newman, Costanzas, Uncle Leo etc.) are just gold, comedy gold

I could see a series just with George's parents

Friends- the greatest sitcom of all time. I always thought Seinfield was an unfunny overrated piece of crap. Didn't understand the hype for it.

Friends- hands down the greatest sitcom.

Despite Jennifer Aniston's stubborn defiance of bras during the series, and Chandler's sarcasm...I'll still have to side with Seinfeld. Shrinkage..Soup Nazi..The girl who always wore the same clothes..the guy who turned Jewish just to make Jew jokes..George killing his fiancee..Kramers every single entrance..Newman..just Newman...and Elaine holding her own among such characters...an undeniable classic.

I would've chosen Friends if the female cast were stronger. Monica was annoying and had man arms. Rachel was eye-candy. Phoebe was definitely the funniest of the lot, but the trio of chandler/ross/joey pretty much stole the show comedy wise.

This isn't even a debate. Friends? It's good but not on the level of Seinfeld.

Tbh, I think Friends was terrible.

I love both but Seinfeld by some distance. I think F.R.I.E.N.D.S receive a lot of hate from hipsters who didn't watch it, it was an awesome sitcom but Seinfeld is the undisputed king of the hill.

I agree, i mean i see so many Seinfeld quotes that you can refer to and people will know instantly wat you're talking about. I mean there's alotta memorable quotes, more so than Friends i believe. But on the topic of Jerry, he's acting was not so great, i mean at times he wanted to laugh and you could see him really trying to hold it in, and other stuff, but imo that's one of the things that made his character work, a laid back, sarcastic. And he was a contrast from Kramer and George.

Im surprised you think its crap. I know some people don't really like it of course. What didn't you like about it?

tbh I thought friends with horrible and I loved seinfeld.

Just what that show could come up with and fit not only into a 30 minute episode but also make it funny. Things such as getting lost in a parking lot, waiting at a restaurant, etc. episodes like that made seinfeld brilliant.

^ that's what makes the show so great. You got good story ideas, like Jerry not knowing the name of his girlfriend, after they've already made out, and not so good ideas like getting lost in the parking lot or waiting in a queue in a chinese restaurant, yet they make the sure funny and interesting, whatever the idea may be....

I like both and i think both are very different shows.

I can't really rate one over the other.

Where's the "I dislike both" option?

This is so hard to chose but I am going with Seinfeld.

it's not in because everyone likes Seinfeld Some people may like Friends over Seinfeld,but it's impossibru to dislike Seinfeld. ;D
