Messi by a country mile. He was involved in half of Argentina's goals, had the sole burden of creativity, and all while playing as a midfielder. Tevez, Aguero & Higuain reaped benefits from his participation. Di Maria did next to nothing.

But hell, what do I know about it. Let's ask the experts:

Aguero was mostly a sub. Higuain was decent but nothing special. Same goes for Di Maria.

Messi's Messi, but he can't do everything by himself.

So it's either Tevez or Verón.

Di Maria was working so hard playing almost like a CM, he didnt shine but he helped his team in different ways.

I have to agree with alfred tho, Messi hands down, he was just incredibly unlucky not to score.

Messi and Masch were great, but that says little since Argentina played really bad.

Also, I would like to understand how VdB says that when the Argentina played weak opponents, only winning by an offside goal against Mexico, and then getting thrashed by Germany. Don't get me wrong, I am not slamming Messi, but saying this is like saying Gilardino rules because he scores against Parma and Cheivo constantly.

I was reviewing the Mexico-Argentina cup, and reading the quotes from FIFA.com. And I just discovered something ridiculous.

While the original quotes have some complaints over the ref's performance, they censored everything that talked about the ref in FIFA.com

On another note, Argentina deserved their victory, but Mexico of 2006 were a stronger opponent. I really like Argentina, and I thin they could have posed more of a threat if (Riqulme, Cambiaso, Zanetti) were playing.

Heck, they could have been better if Maradona played instead of useless Higuan. At least he would score from free kicks.

Messi, no doubt.Tevez played very good too.Higuain scored like 3-4 goals, but it were just some tap-ins., I didnt consider him a major part of that NT.

Anyways it was Messi, hands down, Higuain was at the right time at the right place(A true striker instinct), Tevez was their second best player, Di Maria played as a LM/RM or mostly CM so for that role he was good, considering it's not his natural position
