Do you consider 2011-12 a failure for Barcelona?

I know the season is not over and there is (at least) one title, Copa del Rey left to be won. But overall and regardless of that, do you consider 2011-12 a failure for Barcelona? And why do you believe so? 3-4-3? Injuries? Lack of alternative goalscorers? Small squad and lack of rotation? Other tactics?

Yes of course, we didnt win anything major.

No La Liga or CL means failure for a club with this kind of expectation.

Kind of have to agree with Franchise.

Although to be fair with the injuries and shallow squad, things were stacked against us- and we still did relatively well.

But unfortunately relatively well doesn't get you a major title.

But there's always next season. Hopefully we'll learn to finish chances our chances in CL semifinals and then we'll make the CL final next season

The reason?

In the league, we lacked another consistent goalscorer besides Messi(Xavi 2nd top says it all) and we dropped too many early points playing 343 trying to fit in Cesc.

Once behind, we put too much stock in beating Madrid despite catching them up and when it came time to beat them, again, we had no forwards beside Messi.

Also Madrid were excellent and deserved it, so it wasnt just us losing it, but them winning it too.

In the CL, its less complicated. We missed big chance after big chance after big chance and then let in a very sloppy goal. Also, selection in the 1st leg from Pep didnt help.

To be fair though Franchise, it would be SO easy for Barca to be in the CL final (and win the CL) and it's not like we weren't pretty close at one point to being just a point away from Madrid near the end of the season.

As I said I guess, I do think Barca did relatively well- but that doesn't quite cut it.

We got pretty near to the end of the race, but we never really finished it.

Maybe injuries are the reason, maybe lack of ambition, who knows...Barca should have, COULD have done better but didn't.

In that regard it was not a complete failure.

Its not a complete failure, but in terms of results, it has to be deemed so.

I too consider it a "soft" failure, but not a catastrophe. If it repeats itself, then it is worst. To be honest the only thing that did bother me is not reaching the UCL final. Considering all what other poster mentioned before me, i think we did not do so bad either.

As a team yes failure so far, but individual Messi has had his best season.. if that means anything.

Yes I can completely agree with that.

I don't agree with this being a failed season. Nope.

Failures are what we saw during the last days of the Rijkaard era, the Gasfart era and the time before that. We really are spoilt if we are able to look at this sort of season with three trophies won so far as a failure.

It's a failure, how could it not?, but only because we Barca fans are spoiled by success. That doesn't make me any less proud of the team this season.

I thought we were going to win CL! We were so consistent and well it was shock that Chelsea just so happened to change their normal tactics to defensive tactics that led them to a free ticket to the final... League we were so inconsistent and the lineups were so unpredictable. As Dani said, we were losing games because of the three man defense. Why did we even use three men? Becaues of the love of Fabregas.

Barca won all minor titles - super copa, european super cup, club world cup, probably copa del rey. But failed to win 2 major titles

Not a failure i consider this a dramatic season. everything was great except unlucky results

I voted "meh".

Yes, it's a bit of a failure not to win any major title. But you can't win every season. We were there challenging for all the titles until the last month and that's important. We also won the Club World Cup and can win the King's Cup.

So all in all, it's a failure, but mitigated.

IMO, the biggest reason have been the constant switching of tactics and players. Especially using the 343 that hasn't proved to be more effective in attack while seriously more vulnerable at the back. But the constant switching of team and moving players around out of their position (Alves as RW, Xavi as RM, Keita as DM, Busquets at CB) didn't help at all.

We didn't play the same team and tactics in two games in a row. This didn't allow the team to hit full throttle as previous seasons. We only played well from the february to mid april.

A kind of semi failure.
Disappointed about the league but I had realized by the midpoint of the season that Madrid had just too much firepower upfront and we couldnt match that.They just outgunned us to the league.
But not winning the CL is a major disappointing.This was our CL to lose and we lost it.Winning 2 CL in a row would have been the greatest achievement in the history of the game.
So not reaching the final,especially after completely and utterly dominating Chelsea is a major disappoinment.
So in that sense,season has been a failure.
