bodyfat doesn't stop you gaining muscle. if anything it helps. powerlifters are fat as hell because they eat a ton of food to maximise muscle/strength gains. same with bodybuilders. during their building muscle phase they get fat. because eating a ton of food and working out is the fastest way to get muscles to grow. so they end up putting on fat. bodyfat it's self doesn't hinder or help muscle growth, but it's a needed consequence for maximum muscle growth
