Another Benzema v Higuain thread

This time, it's even funnier... apparently some believe that they play very similarly. I won't even comment. Let's here it from the fans.

This is NOT a discussion about who's better. It's about each players approach to the CF role and their strengths/weaknesses.

Personally I think they are different.
Benzema is more skillful and is great at link up play. Higuain is a great finisher and defeats the offside trap to get the ball into the back of the net.

It's pretty obvious that while they can play the same position, CF, WF etc... they style is extremely different and their skillsets as well. They have opposite strength and that's why they would work so well in pair.

Benzema gets himself involved better in the build up, and the fact that he is technically superior and has better playmaking skills gives him an edge on the ball, outside the box.

while higuain makes better runs, and spend more time distracting and stretching the defense. He plays up top, and leaves the playmaking to the others mot of the time.

Higuain is pretty much a goalscorer while Benzema provides more technical play and can play as an SS.

There is a reason why some say that Higuain is not flashy enough for Real Madrid if they were simiar then they would not say that because Benz is a flare player very different styles.

Benzema can get involved in the play more so than Higuain I agree, but that alot of the time has to do with tactics more than anything.

In terms of creating chances they arn't much different from each other. Finishing petty much the same, in fact from more difficult angles and shots outside the box Higuain is better. Moving wide and stretching the play, again Higuain is better. But Benzema does play better attacking the goal rather from wide (generally the left). Positioning again Higuain. In the box direct striker I would say Higuain again.

With Benzema you get a bit of strength which he never really uses to his advantsge as often as I would like. I am not convinced he is better with the ball at his feet than Higuain not nearly as much as people claim. I have seen Higuain do some outlandish things technically speaking especially in tight spaces with a ball.

Putting pressure on the defence again Higuain is much better.

Higuain is better in the air and better at penalties.

So what does it come down too?

Benzema can come deep and help the build up, but the thing is when Higuain does that when required tactically by the manager (which isn't often) he can do that just as well even when unfit.

Well said Nick, I think that sums up difference. Just one comment however. Benz has shown this form only since February!! He needs confidence to be in good form and for whatever reason, it took him a long time to have that self confidence with Madrid and we can't be certain he had it back in the last month of season.

Benzema, is an odd case, because I'm not sure he knows what he wants to be. He has multiple pitch personalities which makes him exciting and unpredictable.

On the other hand, Higuain is a great player in that he knows what his best role is already and will always do the same thing and do it well. These two things are running the channels on either the right hand side or centre of attack and playing off the shoulder of the last man.

What I like about the both of them, is that it makes a perfect yin and yang and they could actually play in the same line-up (Benz more left, Higuain more right hand side)

We didn't reach the semi finals of CL the last 6 years I really like the current squad, a lot of room for improvement
