He is not that bad, but he is doing his best chamakh impression. Started season well and now he is going to be replaced by Bendtner or some blind guy. We went from Henry, bergkamp. Ian Wright and RVP to Giroud, ,Bendtner and Park.

Lol, no.
And I think you underrate what Giroud does for his midfielders. His hold up play, link up play is actually great. He seems to be inconsistent at goal, but that could be down to fatigue. He's pretty much played every game since August... that includes in the league, CL and cup games. (I can only remember 1 game where he was 'rested' and that was against Hull where Bendtner scored in like 12 seconds after we lost to them 3-1... which isn't really relevant but I'm still pissed off with that game.)

He doesnt miss alot of sitters though...it is the one on one he was never been clinical at, most of the time GK's read him easily for a top striker.

Re: Olivier Giroud
Despite all this, it's interesting that he has the same number of goals in EPL as Negredo and Van Persie (5 more game played than RVP). Also, only Suarez and Aguero are way ahead of him. Giroud has 7 goals.
Suarez 19
Agüero 13
Sturridge 9
Yaya 9
Ramsey 8
Lukaku 8
Rooney 8
Rémy 8
That's it. He's a double away from being 3rd in the EPL in scoring lol.

Yeah but Giroud was never going to be a superstar lol. That's not what you're buying. I mean wtf did you expect. He's a good CF that will get you some goals, brink physical impact, link up well and hold the ball. That's what he is. If you thought you were getting one of the top CFs in the world, then i have some revolutionary water i need to sell you...
Arsenal paid £10 mil for Giroud. That's it. Guess how much the other guys on the list were bought for...
i mean ffs.

Re: Olivier Giroud
I watched his interview before the Chelsea game, Giroud is a very nice guy and I want him to do well but I dont think he is good enouph to lead Arsenal to a trophy.
Arsenal needs help and so does Giroud. I just dont like the fact a Giroud has no competition and he knows he will start every game.
Is not about how much we paid for Giroud, he is just not a Arsenal type striker. Giroud would have been a top scorer with a player like Cesc around him.

Podolski. He should get his chance as CF now that he's fit again.

Re: Olivier Giroud
Yeah but is that on Giroud or Wenger? If you buy a 26 yo CF for £10 mil from a good league, do you expect him to become the next RVP? To me, he's doing his job and doing what his skills allow him to. In fact, he's doing better than i expected. If you want more than this, then you should have bought someone with more skills.
I don't understand the criticism of a player for being who he is and giving it maximum effort. He's no underachieving in any way.
@AM. Podolski was tried at CF but he doesn't make the needed runs that a CF is required to. He often drifts to his preferred wide position or dezones. The spacing gets messed up. He doesn't offer anything more (or less) than Giroud. They're the same quality imo. It wouldn't solve anything. The other issue is free kick defense... that's where Giroud helps out a ton. If you're going to sacrifice the defensive assets that Giroud brings, then you would want additional attacking skills...

I hope so, Podolski is ready and best time to unleash him. Wenger said it himself its time for another player to start up front.

Maybe you should read the next line... I'm certain he was scoring quite a bit when he was fit, and 'healthy'. He's tired. Give him a break. He's still playing a role in the team.
Wenger should start playing Walcott CF until Giroud gets back to full fitness imo. He'll go back to playing his natural game / scoring freely then.
If you want to talk last year and his poor finishing return from the last season, there's not been too many strikers in this league to just start scoring from the moment they walked into the league. Drogba, Suarez and there's a lot more examples of people adapting to goalscoring straight away. People need time. Giroud looked like that was the case at the start of the season.

Oh, so he is not fit and healthy now I don't see any reports of him having any kind of injury so I call that a poor excuse.Red Alert wrote:Maybe you should read the next line... Don't get me wrong though, I can understand if you're a Liverpool fan and don't want Arsenal to sign a better striker
Re: Olivier Giroud
No, he's simply played almost every game for us since the season began due to lack of any real cover and is beginning to burn out as a resultBarrileteCosmico wrote:Yeah but he's been punching above his weight for a while and the law of averages states that he was bound to come back to earth eventually.Lex wrote:Whereas your lil fella won't grow two inches in the next week, Giroud could easily score a brace come Boxing day
He's picked up a few knocks over the course of this season and has had to play on through them.danyjr wrote:Oh, so he is not fit and healthy now I don't see any reports of him having any kind of injury so I call that a poor excuseRed Alert wrote:Maybe you should read the next line... Re: Olivier Giroud
Agree to some extent. But it's hard to gauge because he's had play every min of every game almost. He's already played 2100 mins in 25 starts. Even CR7 has played less. As far as the EPL, he's tops in the league for the teams that are in the top 10 as far as strikers go.BarrileteCosmico wrote:Yeah but he's been punching above his weight for a while and the law of averages states that he was bound to come back to earth eventually.Lex wrote:Whereas your lil fella won't grow two inches in the next week, Giroud could easily score a brace come Boxing day
If he were more of a finesse player, i wouldn't even bring it up. Just need to man up. But since his game is predicated on banging so much, it will take its toll.

Re: Olivier Giroud
The problem behind Giroud's recent drop in form is fatigue as there is little need to overcomplicate his failures. Giroud is forged in the mould of strikers who are built on the use of intelligence and exploiting channels to reach balls, rather than flair, trickery and shot positioning. When you are physically (or mentally) fatigued, your body simply does not respond in the same manner to which is needed for you to think one step ahead of the defence, to which is trademark of a CF in the form of Giroud. He also has been lacking service within the bigger games due to Arsenal's more predictable and cautious ventures within those fixtures; hence why you see him drifting wide or deep to catalyse link-up play and less visual cues of him moving within the box. Back to the original point, he has been starved or rest thus having himself not respond to what he attempts to calibrate, result of Podolski's injury and Wenger's lack of faith in Bendtner.
Which is why Carlo usually gave extra rest to Pippo Inzaghi to optimize upon his form.
Giroud also needs to understand that his position is at risk, as a spell of bench time can serve him far better on the longer run in reinventing his game and providing him the rest he needs.
