Wow and you were saying this to me not so long ago in the Oezil thread.sportsczy wrote:No DM too Dani... Ramsey is the best defensively of all the mids right now. Wilshere-Ramsey is very light in terms of physical presence.
Great on Arsenal for getting Ozil. But there holes remain the same.
S wrote:This looks more of a signing to appease the fans for me.He'll drastically improve the team for sure but Arsenal should have planned better in the market and prioritized areas which needed strengthening.
Inb4 people say i dont watch Arsenal, they're going to experience defensive problems again especially in the Champions League.
S wrote:They dont have a high quality DM.That should've been the priority.sportsczy wrote:ummmm.... no. They were playing Podolski on the left who barely defends (has bad work rate). Ozil is no worse. What this does is put Ozil behind Giroud as a 10, Cazorla can play on the left where he's played very well and Walcott can stay right.
It has zero effect on them defensively and improves the attack dramatically.
Seems like you just wanted to disagree with me for the sake of itsportsczy wrote:Arsenal hasn't played a DM in a long, long time (years). They play with 2 CMs that have ball recovery skills (2 of Ramsey, Arteta, Wilshere and Flamini).
The defense has been very solid recently as they conceded the least goals in EPL in the 2nd half of last year and have been good defensively this year too.
Their defensive issues was mainly very poor CB play in the past... Silvestre, Squilacci, Djourou and Vermaelen. With Per/Koscielny, that's taken care of.
The biggest area of need to me was to upgrade the keeper. That's where Arsenal is weak atm.

Re: Olivier Giroud
I'm not sure why you think Arsenal's midfield bossed Spurs. Playing at home against a disjointed Spurs team without their better players, Spurs looked comfortable in midfield, had more possession of the ball and the only thing they couldn't do was creating many goalscoring opportunities, which Arsenal also failed to do.
Re: Olivier Giroud
More chances created >>>>>> meaningless Possession = bossed.

Re: Olivier Giroud
I dont think its very surprising or impressive getting the better of the midfield battle vs Spurs honestly.
Competing physically is impressive, but outplaying them in that situation, not for me.
That midfield had almost no guile, no ingenuity, no ideas.
A better test will be next time, if Eriksen can do what his talent suggests.

Re: Olivier Giroud
Arsenal had like one more chance created...again, at home against a Spurs team who need a lot of time to gel together. Seriously brah if Arsenal were bossing midfield Wenger wouldn't have switched to 6-3-1 towards the end.
Re: Olivier Giroud
I guess Flamini doesn't count as a DM...sportsczy wrote:No DM too Dani... Ramsey is the best defensively of all the mids right now. Wilshere-Ramsey is very light in terms of physical presence.

Ramsey and Wilshere, as much as theyre worshipped by us, wont start every game. Wenger wont ostracize Arteta when he returns, and neither of them are any good as CAM's where we already have Ozil, Cazorla, Rosicky...
If and when we do go with the Ramshere duo, I'd imagine we'll always stick a Flamini, or Arteta in there with them (or lord willing Diaby).

So let me see if I understand the being presented logic here
Dozens of spurned chances>>>>>>>>one or two chances that lead to a game winning goal?

Flamini is not someone Arsenal should count on against good teams... he was free and NOBODY wanted him. He's a DM with poor technique and no physical presence at this point... also is a risk for a red card at any time with his stupid two footed tackles.

Re: Olivier Giroud
Ozil has actually gotten worse since i wrote that Surag... He's just stopped tracking back period at times.
If Wenger can get Ozil to be consistent in positional defense, then Arsenal will probably be ok. But if he decides to just hang around the center circle waiting for the ball, not so much.
Maybe he was just tired yesterday... i don't know. But even by Ozil standards, that was poor defense. I get the sense he feels that he's the mega star who's not there to defend at all.
We'll see.

Wenger said: "It was especially good because he was sick yesterday. His first half was outstanding, in the second half he dropped a bit physically but overall it was good."
Btw, Cazorla seems injured,
Özil will feed everyone enough to score.

Yeah, Wenger said he wouldn't even have played ozil if cazorla was fit. But that's football fans, always trying to jump to conclusions every game.

That game they competed physically and arguably got the better of it in that department as well.
Ramsey and Wilshere maybe small in height but they are very tenacious, aggressive and don't hide.
As i said i think the real problem is tactical sense and trying to limit the space between the lines something which can be coached.

Re: Olivier Giroud
Believe me, gunners want someone better than Flamini but he has been good and actually add steel into our midfield. Obviously we have to see him more against better teams but he is that physical presence that you said he lacked. He doesn't run as much as he used to but atm he's not required to do so because Rambo and Jack are the engine of the midfield. What he's required to do now is a true DM, stay back, tackle, rally the troops and rarely venture upfront. I'm happy with his performance, of course he still has that two footed tackles but so far no red so I guess the refs seen them differently.sportsczy wrote:Flamini is not someone Arsenal should count on against good teams... he was free and NOBODY wanted him. Also maybe we dodge the bullet with Capoue and Gustavo ? one is long term injured and one got 2 red cards in four games .

But on the tactical stuff, I dont believe it is something that will be coached. Not with Wenger. As much as I like him, I cant ignore he has failed to input a consistent defensive gameplan for ages, dont have belief he will be able to do it for Arsenal.

Re: Olivier Giroud
He's still a donkey but his wok rate and aerial ability is great. As long as he isn't taking more than one touch he's effective.
Most of his goals are one time finishes and he's actually fairly good at those 1-2 passes. Aside from that I wasn't that far off, he's Demba Ba with a stronger mentality.
