If you watched today's match of Dortmund you should realise why you should put up Badstuber together with Hummels. You can't say any of the two is really much better than the other.

Hell yes. Hummels is prone to make one or the other totally inexplicable stupid error in important matches, while Badstuber is actually cooler then (in NT and CL most of the time).

Hummels was horrific defensively against Stuttgart. He's sooooo slow. Doesn't help to play a high line with 2 slow CBs lol. Fantastic with the ball however. Scored a great goal.

I think Hummels is more suited to DM than CB tbh.

Actually, Hummels is a very good CB most of the time. His main problem is - when he makes an error it is usually punished with a goal. Badstuber is very much the same, but he makes less errors that are punished by goals. All in all, both Badstuber and Hummels are the best German CBs around. They are both very young still for CBs (23 years both), so they are still developing. The problem is that they play extremely similar and they are both best when paired with a pacy CB (like Boateng in the Bayern defense). As Badstuber is less prone to stupid errors in important matches, he is usually the starter in the German NT, by the way. I just fear that for the German NT, starting Badstuber and Hummels together just doesn't work as they are too alike. Badstuber's big advantage is that he has a really strong left foot and thus he can't really be replaced at the left CB position.

As for Hummels as DM - Hummels and Badstuber were both educated at the Bayern youth setup, and with Badstuber I know for sure he started out as DM there (he was put as DM to learn better distribution and passing before he was moved back to CB). I haven't read that explicitely about Hummels, but I would expect he was similarly educated.

I don't rate Badstuber much at all... the more he plays, the better it is for Madrid and France NT if and when we meet. Slow and mistake-prone. Not to mention a massive ego.

Btw, Vermaelen
