Pirlo-like Lodi cools Italy talk
Catania’s Francesco Lodi says he’s not thinking about Euro 2012 and he’s quashed comparisons with Juventus ace Andrea Pirlo.
The 27-year-old is having a fine campaign in Sicily and is one of the reasons behind his club’s positive results this term.
Having scored eight goals and provided numerous assists in 28 League games so far, some are tipping him for a maiden Italian international call-up.
“I’m not thinking about the national team right now, my priority is to do well for Catania,” he told Mediaset.
“I won’t let a few good games affect me as I know I have to play well with consistency.”
The former Udinese player started life as an attacking midfielder, before being converted to a deep-lying playmaker – a move which Pirlo made earlier in his career.
“The only thing I have in common with Andrea is the role that we play,” the Neapolitan continued.
“He’s done a lot in his career, a lot for Italian football and he’s reached the highest levels. I’m only at the beginning and I still have to demonstrate my ability.”
Amazingly, all of Lodi’s goals this season have come from dead-ball situations – either penalties or free-kicks.
“As a kid I used to play football in the street. It was great fun and my challenge was always to try to hit shop signs with my free-kicks.
“Now I usually dedicate some time in training on Friday and Saturday to work on my free-kicks with a metal wall...”

Lodi is not low class...
The man is a master passer & one of the deadly freekick takers in Europe...
Why when a player don't come from a club like Man Utd,Chelsea or Barca people have it to say they can't excel to certain levels?
It has nothing to do with the club they play but just the individual talent & this dude has talent...
Watch Catania's matches & you'll see
