In the first half of the san siro matchup, barca's defense was absolutely terrible. It was possibly their worst performance of the season defensively.

As seen in the formation, Carles Puyol was playing at right back on a very high line and his pace was constantly being exposed by fast players like robinho. My barca friends were watching and we could not believe the defense, how shaky it was.

It was a 3-4-3 ultra attacking formation. I mean, just look at it!!
Pep knew that if he goes into San Siro, he can expect a fight from Milan, so he gambled on a very offensive setup, and left the defense narrow with only 3 men. Well, it got exposed a few times, but Barca eventually controlled the midfield and scored.

The man marking thing about Xavi and Messi is true. Xavi was able to get close to the net that game because he learned how to interchange positions with the 'false striker', Lio Messi.

I'd never seen him get that close to the net, certainly not shooting and looking towards goal for a shot. I certainly felt that Xavi was a hero that night but I also sensed an evolution in his game. That was the moment I realized this is a "new" barca.

With an extra midfielder thanks to the 3-4-3, there is greater freedom and more ability for the players to control possession in the attacking third.

Xavi is having a record season for goals with ~14 goals, he even scored today. Barcelona never had such a fluid setup with such dynamic players. Xavi certainly never scored this many goals under Rikjaard.

It'll be fun to see how Milan cope with Messi in this kind of form
