Things Plastic Football Fans Say

Haha this is a goat thread but i will not get too involved because the Madrid goal legacy gang will attack.

An example is;

I am from country (insert anywhere but spain) but my grandpas, son knows a guy who knows a guy that had a dog that lived in Madrid/Barcelona therefore I am the biggest fan.

me: ah so you like football?
him: yes, i'm a big fan.
me: So you support a club from you country? (Colombia)
him: no I support Madrid, they have 9 CL and the trophy for best club of XX century.
me: You'll fit in well with other spaniards.

Friend: Messi is the best player in the world.

Me : Alright! How have you been?
Him : Studies. You still play football?
Me : Nah.. I still do follow it.
Him : Cool been watching some too. What's that team with the referee like jersey?
Me : Newcastle?
Him : nope.
Me : Juventus?
Him : Yeah.. Caught them on TV awhile ago.
Me : uhhh cool...

*Serie A and any of the UEFA competitions is not broadcasted in any Cable/Local Channel in my country.

Most of the cases described are barely fans. Not plastic ones.
It’s natural for someone who only occasionally watches football to say things like this.
I doubt they even consider them selves fans

Nothing wrong with being a plastic fan. You don't get too worked up over seeing your team lose and when that happens, one just moves on to another. I say that seems like a decent fan boyism lifestyle.

Friend: Who you cheering for the WC?

Me: Like I f**king care. My country (Trinidad) is out. Whoever wins it is not my concern. Although Italy or Germany can go suck an egg.

Friend: You thought us would go far? Man, we are so much of shit. I'm hoping Italy wins it.

Me: Of course we are but it's called patriotism. This isn't club football, this is country vs country. And besides, what you doing cheering Italy, thought you liked Argentina because of Messi?

Friend: Yeah but they knocked out, my 2nd team is Italy.

Me: 2nd team? Did you even cheer us at all?

Friend: A bit...

Me: Several expletives about his choice of teams, sense of patriotism and his choice of women...

Trust me, those dudes were guys who i played with in High School and they are self confessed footie fans as they say. lol

I have to confess, I said something that sounded plastic a few years back.

I had a friend in school who was as much an Arsenal supporter as I was, but also had a fondness for West Ham. One day, he decided that he wanted to support West Ham full time. When he told me, I didn't really understand why he would do that and him why he would support West Ham when Arsenal were so much better, that West Ham were rubbish etc.

Looking back on it, I'm not too proud of that. I've since learned the error of my ways.

Plastic fans who say stupid things about football aren't the ones who make me mad,but plastic fans who celebrate/rub in a loss are the ones who drive me crazy.

no offense but just because a guy doesnt live in the country where his favorite club plays doesnt mean he is a plastic fan or not the biggest fan or something.

None taken, you might be the biggest Madrid supporter in India but you are not a real Madrid fan. That's how I see it and you might see it different. Plus I never hate on supporters like you because you don't offend others. Some people will become Madrid/Barca/United/City fans because of the money or players and they shit on other teams. They go around gloating and attacking others when someone says anything about their team or player. Ya that's all cool but don't get so emotionally attached if you have never experienced the team live.

I see a supporter as someone who supports a team by watching their team on tv, online, buying jerseys etc. you support the team buy contributing to their income.

A fan is someone that can associate himself with the team, the teams history. Bein able to go to matches at the home ground cheer the team for 90 minutes. Celebrate with other fans after the game in the streets or pubs. A fan is even willing to go to hostile away matches. Anyone that is a true local team fan will tell you the same.

I am a fan of Wisla always have been and always will be. I do watch other teams and leagues, I own many jerseys, because I like to collect them. I can't call myself a fan of a team I will not be able to see. All this might be because of my experiences in life. I don't want to hate on any bodies beliefs but some people are so annoying and obvious glory hunters that it's hard not to!
