Juan showed great class after he was racially abused by Lazio supporters. “It never happened before. I feel sorry for them.”

The Roma defender heard the racist boos from the Biancocelesti end during the 2-1 result this afternoon and reacted by putting his finger to his lips, which only incited further abuse.

“It’s terribly disappointing, as I’ve been in Rome for 10 years and this has never happened to me before,” the Brazilian told Sky Sport Italia.

“I felt sorry for them, but I have enough character to just shrug these things off and don’t let them affect me on the field.

“I received hugs from the Roma and Lazio players after that incident, as they were also embarrassed by what was happening.

“It is a particular shame as we all came on to the pitch before kick-off with anti-racism messages on our shirts.

“In all my time at Roma, I have never shown disrespect for Lazio, so it was a surprise to be targeted like that

Lazio fans are a bit thick..don't they have some Black players as well Diakite, Konko, Makinwa

Lazio needs to be heavily punished for their fans... In one way or another, the fans must learn that its wrong and unacceptable.

Maybe some would consider it unfair to the club, as they cannot control the misbehaving fans, but some action needs to be taken. This is intolerable.

They are the scum of football fans... Do not put anything beyond them.

A fine is not enough, I think they need to play behind closed doors for the next couple of home matches along with the fine.

They need to learn their lesson.

well not necessarily, Fascists seek rejuvenation of their nation based on commitment to an organic national community where its individuals are united together as one people in national identity by suprapersonal connections of ancestry, culture, and blood

while Racism is the belief that inherent different traits in human racial groups justify discrimination. It is applied especially to the practice or advocacy of racial discrimination of a pernicious nature (i.e., which harms particular groups of people), and which is often justified by recourse to racial stereotyping or pseudo-science.

Lazio are the anus of world football. I can't really decide which set of fans are more scummier between them or Millwall.

I remember them booing a black player of theirs too when the tannoy was announcing their squad. Can't be bothered to post it, but it's there somewhere on YT.

FIGC: Racism is unacceptable

The Italian football association’s President has come out and condemned the racist abuse Roma defender Juan received during the weekend’s Rome derby.

The game, which Lazio won 2-1, was marred in the second half by continued racist chants aimed at the Giallorosso centre-back. The Aquile have been fined €20,000 for failing to control their supporters, whilst head of the Italian FA, Giancarlo Abete has now come out to add his weight behind condemnation of sections of the club’s fans.

“We are at the forefront in the fight against racism,” declared Abete on Monday afternoon.

“There is a great commitment against discrimination. In early May we will organise a European conference with the [European-based anti-racism] organisation FARE.

“Racist behaviour is unacceptable.

“We must intensify this battle. There should be respect for diversity because we belong to one race, the human race.”

The customary drop in the bucket.
