Sacking Ancelotti was utterly stupid.

Di Matteo cannot do any worse for the remainder of the season. Inheriter a team outside the top-4.

Abramovich runs the club like an overenthusiastic supporter. You don't go buy players because you "like" them and you have the money. Leave it to the management to pick the players that fit their system. Let the management build the team, not the owner. I can't imagine who would want to step into that position. No one has even mentioned the weight of the expectations next season. Somehow, I don't think Abramovich will be satisfied with a return to the Champions League. He'll want to compete for the title, Europa League and FA Cup. Good luck to the manager that gets the position.

Abramovich is the definition of knee jerk and the fact that this is the second manager in succession to fail with this weak team shows that he should either put in some serious investment or lower his expectations

You get to inherit a poor/ageing team, who lack versatility in the way they play.... if you try and make changes and drop certain players you get questioned, risk losing your job and as well as an in house mutiny...

dont forget the owner will buy players you dont even want and then will try and force you to play them even if they dont even fit into your tactical plan/strategy

AND

he expects you to win the league as a given but even thats not enough you must also win the CL or he will not be happy

I am kinda disappointed in the firing of AVB, he is going to be a great manager in the future. But atm he has a lot to learn, he is still learning on the job. He made way too many mistakes for a top manager.

The players are obviously the bigger problem, would be shocked if some of the players get another chance like they did this season. Felt some of the players had to go last summer, but AVB gave them another chance. The next manager should not make the same mistake.

His biggest mistake was going away from the possession football and the highline. He should've stuck to it instead of reverting back to the old Chelsea style and a more experienced manager would've done that. I could bare the bad results, because this season could've been a progression for next season. But this year we did not make any progress on the pitch, it was a complete waste of season.

I look it this way if you are not wining trophies, then you better be doing something that results in long term success. ex: playing youngsters, change of playing style, etc

Clearly we did not do any of those under AVB. So AVB sacking is justifiable imo anyway.

btw what high expectation is there for AVB?

No one expects him to win any trophy, his goal was to finish in the top 4. We are 5th atm, and every game under him seemed to guarantee to even slip further in the table.

At first I thought they should give AVB another year no matter what, but now I think this is the right decision.

IT would be one thing if they were showing improvement over the course of the year or the play looked good but they weren't getting the results, but they can't beat anyone right now and they play some of the worst football I have ever seen from a top club.

I know they need new players but they should be able to get 4th with this squad especially in this weakened EPL. I mean this is the weakest I've seen the EPL in the last 10 years so yes he should get a learning curve but by this time in the season you should see something from him and there is really nothing positive to build on.

Even when they win there never dominant and they look fortunate to win games and anyone can beat them.

I mean if your trying to convince Roman to keep AVB what positive could you say in AVB's defense to keep him, I can't think of anything.

Way too much, but IMO you should do the right thing no matter what it costs. With that being said I never understood the Ancelotti firing, but I can understand this one.

clearly not the right one for the job, didn't do much to help his case and rightfully sacked, time to move on.

I think some of his youth really began to show the longer the season went on.

Also, he really benefitted from the All Star team he had at Porto. I mean I said this last year and before the season this year, that team would make the CL in any league in Europe. And in Liga Sagres they were just unstoppable.

Plus a little known fact about that Porto team was that in the Europa League they won they didn't play a English, Spanish, or Italian team the whole tournament. Take from that what you want.

I agree with your post dnmac, but I want to point out we faced Sevilla (lost 1-0 at home and won 2-1 away) and Villarreal (won 5-1 at home and lost 3-2 away). So we did face Spanish teams.

Is AVB going to be the next Brian Clough?

Immensely talented, tearing it up with a mid sized/smaller team, takes over a huge club, gets fired in hardly any time, goes to another team and wreaks havoc.

Indeed, no german teams.

And BTW, I'm not saying they had an easy run of games to win the Europa League as Sevilla, Villareal (last year), CSKA, Besiktas, and Braga is a hard draw as I'm not a league snob, but you tend to face better coaching/teams in the big 4 leagues and I think he was out coached a lot this year.

this was a bad move for most chelsea fans i'd imagine. bringing in someone else right now might help immediately with chelseas's season. but it's essentially roman saying that he doesn't believe the team needs a rejuvination to be successful
