free kicks

Why are we so bad at taking free kicks? Arteta always hits the wall.

I dont know why RVP does not take the free kicks mostly Arteta is taking them. I cant wait till Santos comes back at least he is another player that can take free kicks.

been noticing this too. maybe we dont do enough set-piece practice in training (judging by some of our defending as well)

Yeh, I have been noticing this too.

Arteta has been fantastic for us this season, immense! But he can't take a free-kick! Not like he used to at Everton.

We've struggled from free-kicks ever since Henry and Pires left. Those two were genius from those positions.

Van Persie can be hit and miss (literally). He used to be excellent but hasn't had much luck with these recently. Sometimes I wonder why he doesn't go for power when we have 20 yards out like he used. Seems to try and finesse it in a lot these days.

No idea what's happened to Arteta. Some of his freekicks for Everton were outstanding. His corners haven't been great, either.

Interesting how set-piece prowess can dessert some players.

Guys what about Vermelen ?
I think he has the most powerful shot in our team.. Have seen some good free kicks from him.. And i remember that match when he tested the gk couple of times from 30+ yards..
And just to fantasize what he would do if he was playing as a defensive midfielder..
I feel he is a player who can play in any position.. Great defensive qualities, good pace, good shot, great long passes.. Only area be lacks may be dribbling and possession skills.. What a player... The Verminator...

Maybe i dunno. I mean RVP was good at free-kicks, Arteta was good at 'em. I dunno what to say. Maybe we should give Verm and Santos a try....

verm's had a couple this season too, but iirc most hit the wall as well...

I remember a few good Arteta kicks... corners are OK, typically. Nothing brilliant. You'll notice the Ox takes the corners when the Ox is in.
