Biggest disappointment in football.
A bit of a joke thread here, but in light of Ibra's comments of him being ok with not winning a UCL title, I wanted to see who else has gotten close to an achievement, may have deserved it but never quite got it (and many are still possible.)
This is just for fun of course, and to give an idea as to what I mean, some mentions can be Messi never winning a WC, R9, Ibra and even Chelsea not being able to secure a CL, Henry and many others not winning a ballon, and Michael Ballack.
Which others come to mind?

1982 Brasil side would counter most of what you wrote. Of course, if Wiggles were here he would say something different....

Cruyff never winning a WC, the Dutch teams literally changed football. It would be nice if they were rewarded with a WC.
Though Ajax won the European cup, so no big deal really.

They didn't deserve to win and lost through their own arrogance. Had they won they would not have been as revered as they are today, the beauty of that team lies in their defeat. Even Cruyff said it.

Agree about their legacy but they lost to an equally (if not better) side in Germany in 74.
Also +1 for La Quinta, they deserved a European Cup. Fair enough there is no shame in losing to Sacchi's Milan but no way in hell did PSV deserve to be in the final the year before that ahead of that great side.

We been over this. They were arrogant and paid for it, but considering what they did in basically changing the face of football it would of been nice if a WC further stamped that.
I said it would of been nice, not they deserved it.

Germany were not better in 74 Zeal, they just won. Thats not to say they were not deserving, however, the Dutch team were certainty more talented.
Both teams at the peak of their powers, the Dutch were better.

Arguable imo, Germany had the Kaiser, Paul Breitner, Gerd Muller, Uli Hoeneß, Wolfgang Overath and Günter Netzer.
All legends in their own right. Most of the world were in love with the Acid trippy Clockwork Orange but IMO Germany were the more well rounded team.

Re: Biggest disappointment in football.
Of course, they were not bums. But for me, Holland played better, more technical and more controlling.
To me Holland let them in the game rather than Germany taking it from them.

Long story short:
Argentina refused to participate in what would have been his first world cup.
He missed what would've been his second through injury.
Mass footballer strikes in Argentina forced Di Stefano to migrate to Columbia to make a living. Problem was Colombia wasn't recognised by FIFA. Missed what would've been his third.
Moved to Spain.
Became Spanish national when he was probably past his prime. Spain didn't qualify for what would've been his last world cup.
I recalling these off the top of my head, so I could be wrong with the order/details but it was something like that.
