How highly do you rate Sergio Ramos?

Opinion on Sergi should and will remain the same. A highly flawed CB who is a leader, lionheart and comes through for his team when they need them most which lets be honest many of the stars in Madrid do not seem to do when its squeaky bum time. Ramos is a legend in my mind and my family but he has only proven that he makes the best of his strengths since he cannot possibly improve in defence at this point of his career and its an admirable move.

He's clutch AF.

Sergio Ramos is probably the oddest player I've ever witnessed. He had all the physical attributes to become as good a defender as any, yet poor decision-making, poor man-marking and a surprisingly hesitant approach to defensive aerial duels made him an unreliable defender who, in my opinion, has been a major reason for the club's tendency to concede from set pieces over the past decade. As a defender, I've always prepared myself for the possibility that he would let the team down through poor man-marking or getting himself unnecessarily booked/sent off.

I think a lot of people, including myself, have a tendency to conveniently overlook the fact that often, many of his defensive mistakes could've lead to Real Madrid conceding goals and possibly losing them the match if not for opposing teams wasting their chances, but then he goes and makes up for it by scoring goals out of nowhere. I never have, and never will understand why he sometimes shies away from aerial challenges in defense, but always approaches offensive aerial challenges as if his life depended on it. He's a legend, no doubt, but he's also a very unique type of player. I've always known that he was unique, but I never thought his career would pan out this way.

I mean, whenever I hear his name, I think of his decisive goals and his goal celebrations - like his quirky nipple rub celebration after scoring against Sevilla - and not his efforts in helping us keep clean sheets. He's a defender who can be very unreliable in defense, but compensates for it by being super clutch on the other side of the pitch

He's not an elite at Defending but he is an elite player. Easily.

The guy is a real leader. So much character on the pitch.

I should hate him for breaking Barca's hope to win the El Clasico but he was pretty impressive

It's a good thing he can score goals though because if not we would be talking about how he's one of the most overrated defenders of our generation

Yeah, pretty well sums up the view of the Ramos haters. Hero, legend at one moment but just one goal against from being overrated!!!



Note - he is blaming Ramos for their goals yet Ramos wasn't anywhere close to being responsible. It was all Casemiro on first and Danilo on second. Such is the viewpoint of the Ramos detractors!

I don't think Firenze is a Ramos hater though. He is right, Ramos has many weaknesses as a defender.

But what makes him a legend is his clutch moments, presence and leadership.

Ramos is actually one of my favorite players despite me thinking defensively he's overrated, like you say he brings leadership and steps up big when you need a goal, you can never question his heart, his strengths more than make up for his weaknesses IMO

Ramos has as many goals as Benzema and Neymar in LaLiga this season

Ramos is an awful defender, but good at attacking set pieces. (Edit: good is an understatement. Probably the GOAT at it).

Wouldn't say he is awful defender. He is better than 80% of the CBs. He isn't a clean defender though so his mistakes are glaring. But he is still top 10 in the world probably.

I totally agree with Freeza. Defensively Ramos is awful. I've never rated him defensively.

But he is the GOAT clutch player. Would sub him in every time if I need a 90+ minute goal.

Yea because he managed to make a career at one of the biggest club in the world for over a decade while being an integral part of one of the most dominating national team in history purely because of clutch goals right?

Have to agree with RG here too, just like CR's linkup play is severly underrated here so is Ramos defending.

It's not really that bad. Ramos defended better than Pepe today but I have to agree he f*cked up with one goal.

Not to take anything away from Pepe he stopped a good counter

Ramos is a good defender overall, but he's incredibly error prone. If he weren't the heart of Madrid and the most clutch sportsman of all time at Madrid and instead was at, say, City...people would eat him alive for his errors and his shortcomings as a CB.

That wouldn't be fair though, because he is the heart of Madrid and he IS imo the most clutch sportsman of all time. You can't take that away from him and that's a valuable trait. He's got leadership, heart, passion, and incredible clutch factor.

That being said. He's a good defender. I wouldn't say he's much more.
